If you're going DK, I suggest you roll an Orc. Orc SDKs (Stamina Death Knights) are the ones that can catch and kill pretty much everything. Orcs are faster, have higher health and stam, and regenerate like nords do.

If you're new new, I'd go Dual wield and get DK earth rock throw knockdown. What you do is run up to them, shoot them with rock knocking them down, then go wild on them with flurry with your dual wield skill. Works great in PvE and early game PvP.

I also used a bow as my 2ndary, which can add DPS by raining arrows on your combat zone. So as you're running at them AOE the area, then swap to dual, bust em knock em down with the rock throw, then flurry.

There is also soul trap which evolves later to sap HP which is alright.

Armor is based on what you're going for, if you're PvP all day Medium provides stam regens and produces more damage. So if you're going for the ambusher kind of OwPvP medium is the way to go.

However, Heavy is good at HP regen, improves healing recieved, physical and spell resistance. It is a need for front lines combatants.

Once you get higher up there, get a two-handed axe. They are excellent for cleaning up dungeons and cleaving.

It's not like a nord can't do these things, you'd be able to survive cold magic like AoE bilz better than an orc but and orcs can run farther and faster than nords, which as a melee is important to be able to close distance and still have stam to start swinging.

Unless you just plan on using the DK chain "get over here" skill.

Look up (Google) "ESO Dragonknight Builds" - and review "Magicka DPS" or "Stamina DPS" or "Tank" builds.

For PvE, AlcastHQ.com is one of the standard places to start, while Dotz and others are a strong second opinion. Alcast generally does a good job of explaining "who" and "why" a particular build should be considered.

For PvP, Dotz is a good place to start.

On-line builds will provide a very different flavor for Stamina versus Magicka based characters for DPS, while a Tank is always somewhere in between. Also, PvE builds are strictly meant for "Team" or Group play - if you are solo, be sure you have some healing or shielding available (or both).

For developing your character, you will need to earn many Skill Points, and these are mostly found in PvE space, so plan that out for starters. This will also give you a feel about whether you LIKE the play-style. And you can easily make it through to level 50 with looted gear, so save your caps.

Play-Style varies greatly from Tank and DPS, and for Solo questing (like most Quests in ESO) - a hybrid-DPS build is best for this (like Heals-DPS or Tanky-DPS).

I takes a long time to learn the playstyle and get your DPS to be worthy, and "Tanking" in PvP isn't really a thing (although "Tankiness" is a thing). Knowing how to do damage, and knowling the importance of a valid rotation, and knowing the timing and benefits of your rotation take practice.

For my Tanks, i usually start training my rotation by looking for Trolls, Giants, and World Bosses to test my sustainment, and then i solo Dungeons to test against mobs and mini-bosses. It takes a while to get to a mini-boss (since Tanks have low damage dealing), but it's best to find flaws early and on your own before someone is depending on you.

My first DK was for PvE - a dark-elf Tank. Their racial passives have changed significantly over the past year, but he's still one of my favorite toons. I converted him to a Magicka DK, which is what he does now, and with some training, i could make him a stamina DK rather easily.

For PvP, i've run Tanky DKs (Argonian), Stam NB (Orc, Redguard), and Templars (Stam & Mag). All have their pluses and minuses, but all can be killed but some more quickly than others).

At the beginning, it's mostly about figuring out your play style and preferences, and not about listening to what others tell you to do. In general i say "Play them ALL".

To answer your question more directly:

Alcast is nice because they give you a "Beginner" Outfit set that is all Craftable. If you want to be "More Tanky" in PvP, just blend in aspects of PvE Tank to the PvP DPS

I concur with DargonBlak. The alcasthq builds are very good, except for their allocation of Champion Points. DargonBlak's advise was even better. Tanks are specifically designed to absorb damage, not deal it.

You need to be able to do a minimum of 3,500 dps if you expect to survive soloing the Delves. Tanks have no problem surviving, despite their low damage, but you will find that solo combat takes forever. So I also start my Tank off as a Dual-Wield DPSer. Only after they reach 50th level do I reconfigure him to be a Sword & Board Tank to run with groups. You could switch between the two, but it means keeping two different sets of armor and weapons.

For a Sword & Board Tank throw everything into Stamina, except for maybe a few points into Health and Magicka. You will have 64 points total, so a 55 Stamina, 5 Health, and 4 Magicka is a good distribution. If you go with a Templar Tank instead of a DK Tank, then 55 Magicka, 5 Health, and 4 Stamina is a good distribution. The key being that the bulk of your points for each level will go to either Stamina or Magicka, depending on the type of Tank you want to be.

Argonians, Orcs, Redguard, an Bretons make for the best Tanks. Many don't consider Bretons to be good Tanks, but their partial immunity to Magicka is perfect for a Tank.
