Exactly the way it seems to be: Your alliance must take over the tower in front of the gate that protects the temple behind such gate, so the gate opens wide, conquer the gate, and take the temple and the scroll. During that carnage, it's your chance to make it thru the gate and go for the shard. Same at whichever other faction you have to fight to get all 4 behind other factions walls.

Not everyone get those 4 shards for the obvious reason. You can't just try to go thru the gate on your own (you can try, but you'll see why you can't just solo it. I was foolish enough to try once).

I sneak into enemy areas on horseback... Got all but 4. I got 31 behind enemy line before getting caught. 😁

You need to wait for (or help) your alliance claim the bases near the enemy gates to open them. This is arguably the longest and most grueling step and is mostly depending on player RNG of if your faction has enough PvPers at certain time frames to take over most of the map.

Once the gates are open, you have a few options of getting past the guards, I've tested these three at least and they all work. Just make sure to go prone and stealth after you make it past the gate to avoid players killing you on sight. (As long as the game says you're "Hidden" you're completely invisible to players unless they get right next to you or use stealth detection potions/skills).

1. The least resource intensive, all you need to do is get Rapid Maneuvers from the Assault PvP branch and then jog your mount up to the gate, pop it as you see the guards and then start sprinting the moment the guards start attacking you to get that initial speed boost. Blow past them and just turn the corner really fast to break line of sight so you don't get hit anymore to avoid getting dismounted and killed. Proceed to use stealth to make your way to the Shard.

2. Requires either buying some stealth potions or having enough alchemy to make your own. Simply acquire some invisibility+speed potions then when you're near the gate and the guards are in sight, pop them and saunter your way past and behind the walls to break line of sight (Make sure you don't sprint or else the invisibility will end). Proceed to use regular stealth to make your way to the Shard again.

3. This is the riskiest method and may require some other players depending on your execution so I don't recommend it but I've managed to pull it off once, only barely though. Use your alliance points earned from PvP to acquire some siege weaponry, (Preferably Iceball Trebuchets or Oil Catapults). Place your siege gear in range of the guards and try to hit a lot of them near the entrance in a single shot. They'll get distracted and slowed down by the siege gear which is your chance to make a run for it, use whatever you can to get to the other side as fast as possible and then break Line of Sight and hide. Proceed to make your way to the shard using stealth.

I was under the assumption that you needed a big group to get into the enemy main bases but I learned that you can very easily get to them solo. Thus the biggest issue comes back around to waiting for the gates to actually be opened in the first place.
