ive came across a few now mostly every time i get a purple item what can they really contain ??

Same thing with other chests, but in better quality and/or better chances.
Like, its very rare to get set item, regardless of quality, from Simple chest.
Bun in Advanced and Master chests set item is granted, and in good quality.
You can get ~ +1 to chest's quality by Tresure Hunter passive from CP.
With Treasure Hunter you can get set items from Simple chests, like, easy.

So you can think that with Treasure Hunter you can get gold quality items from same sources that drop purple, get purple from sources of blue, etc. Passive works with nearly any containers, from chests to dungeon boss corpses.

But it's just a rumors, okay :)

nope, you can not get gold quality items ever from chests, even if the chests have Master difficulty locks and even with Treasure Hunter CP, all it does is make simple chests contents into intermediate, intermediate into advanced and advanced into master, master you can get 2 set pieces or 1 set piece in purple and maybe a bit more money than usual.
