A Sorcerer has zero problems with healing all the content in the game. But it's not always the first choice because trials simply favor specific classes in specific roles.
In Sunspire Hardmodes for example it's really good to have a Sorcerer as group Parse Healer to have Minor Sorcery in the group, since the Sorc as PvE DD is not really so strong anymore and can be replaced by a stronger class.
I could go on and on, but to make it short: Yes, a Sorc Healer is strong and def. viable for all content in the game. But not always the first choice.
At that time I was still very new to the game and didn't know there are better classes for healing.
You can easily complete most of the content of them game, the only tricky part is the endgame stuff simply because most raid groups will only take wardens and templars when attempting vTrial title runs.
The only time I changed to a dd was to complete and farm vMA,simply because it was the quicker option.
I have CP600 DPS VampSorc with restoration staff & skills on the second bar.
I.E., Why not be both at the same time?
You can always go to a shine and make that character whatever you wish, by redistributing skill points.
