Mother's Sorrow vs Argnonian Muck Minder Mother's Sorrow

Hey guys - 2 questions.

1. What's the difference between the 2 staffs mentioned in the title? Is one better than the other?
2. I recently completed the quest for the Argonian staff and have upgraded it to EPIC. Is it worth the 50k gold to upgrade to LEGENDARY or better to wait for something even better down the line or simply buy the OTHER Mother's Sorrow Lightning Staff?

Why lightning staff? Afaik the best staff in PvE is inferno.

Nope there is no difference, it's just a unique named one because it's a quest reward.

And btw why 50k? One Rosin is like 2.5k and you need 8 of them so it's only 20k

Oh, on mine it's telling me I need 20 Rosin for 100% chance of upgrade. Maybe my thing isn't upgraded all the way yet. Is there even an inferno version of Mother's Sorrow? I wasn't aware Inferno was better. Currently using Epic Juliano's Inferno staff.

Woodworking passives reduce the number of materials required for upgrade.

Thanks - I feel like an idiot, yesterday I upgraded it from green to purple without adding a single point towards my passives, so it cost me all the MASTICs i had... glad you pointed this out as I'd be out a ton of ROSIN.

Ok - that aside, is it worth upgrading to legendary then or should I hold off and upgrade something else? Or how about the Julianos inferno staff? is that worth upgrading to LEG instead?

Depends, Are you at or above CP160? If not, then NO it is not worth improving it past blue Superior.
CP160 is the gear cap and anything below that level will weaken as you lvl up. If you are at or above the 160 level than it can be worth it if you are running a "Mother of Sorrow" set on your toon. If you are running the jewelry & weapon set than you will also need a "mother of sorrow staff for your front bar, (Alcast's MagSorc build, one of them, recommends a Flame staff on the front bar and the lighting staff on the back).
I had to buy the flame staff, as I did not feel like farming forever for it.

Yep - I am over 160. I'm around 220 CP, but do not have the flame one. I have the gold to possibly buy the gold one, but then I wouldn't have the gold to buy the rosin to upgrade the argonian one. Basically, for now, I can get one or the other, but not both.

I have all the other Mother of Sorrow set pieces, so the staff wouldn't really help me achieve the "5 set" piece stats, as I've already covered that.

If you are still farming, the free lightning staff will do for now. As Brownstone said, Fire staff is what you're looking for. They are however REALLY expensive. You can farm them, I farmed mine, but as I said, for now the lightning will do.

Actully there isn't much of dps difference in the long run you'll notice that
Lightning is good for AoE and fire good for single target
They both get job done
so both are equally good unless you're a min maxer


The dps difference from purple to gold is like ~5%
Upgraded my first staff to gold at around 600cp and I was still easily hitting 40k+ on my mag sorc with purple gear

That's amazing man. Any chance I can see your CP points allocation? Or did you follow one of the common builds?

No difference at all, and go ahead if you want to max it.
You will need it, fire staff is on favor if you are doing group pve contents, lightning staff however really great for solo contents like VMA, farm, grind etc
