What happens if I purchase the game TWICE?
Greetings,

So I bought the base game with the Morrowind chapter couple of months ago and just started playing. Fell in love with the game since I started playing. But now I'm kind of confused about the other DLC's. There's a deal with Elsweyr edition of the game which includes both Elsweyr and Summerset along with the base game and the Morrowind chapter. But since I already own the Morrowind chapter and the base game, I'm worried that something will go wrong if I purchase the deal I'm talking about. It's a super cheap deal and I don't want to miss it, sum of those two DLC's together even if they're at a discount, is way over the current deal.

So the question has had to be asked, what happens if I purchase the game twice ?

Thanks in advance.

If you have purchased the base game on Steam it will give you problems if you try and buy another package that includes the base game. Steam can't differentiate between the base game and the standard edition with all the old chapters included. As a result it may not let you download the game again, telling you it is already in your library.

If this happens to you I suggest you get the package direct from ESO. All Steam has is the launcher, your game content is held on your ESO account anyway. The extra chapters will not be visible on Steam but will be available to you as soon as you launch the game.

Are you just speculating?

Even if this is true, you could always email steam support and have them remove the problematic licenses. It wouldn't affect your account as Steam doesn't manage that.

Listen to the people that are telling you to just buy the Elswyer (or newest bundle) from Zenimax. Steam has so many problems with regards to authentification and such which leads you to not being able to play the game (usually after updates). Get the non steam version of ESO.

If you stick with steam, buying the other bundle shouldn't cause a problem. When you try to launch the game, it should check your current installed files versus what you own. If you now own something, but it's not installed, it should automatically start to download/install said files. Once it's all done, you should be able to play the content that you bought.

I had the base+Morrowind, and I bought the elsweyr+summerset+basegame bundle, and it works completely fine. Just buy it from Steam.

I am not speculating. This is a well documented scenario. Good luck getting Steam to behave the way you describe.

Assuming the bundle works like other bundles in Steam, it should just tell you on checkout that you won't receive certain items from the bundle because you already own them. But you should still get a copy of everything else, I believe.

However there has been some issues in the past where user who tries to buy a bundle including the base game, while already owning a copy of the base game, were unable to purchase said bundle.

That would be true if the different ESO editions contained modified copies of the game. But the different editions in ESO are simply sold as bundles, meaning the base game and DLCs are separated, so it shouldn't cause any technical difficulties. It should just say on checkout that they already own certain items from this bundle, therefore they will only receive the parts that they don't own while still having to pay the full price.

The problem arises at the point of purchase. If Steam allows you to buy it then that's fine. This is a workaround for when Steam refuses to let you buy it because the base game is already in your library.
