Steam vs Non-Steam
So I linked my ancient beta account with steam for the free weekend. What exactly happens if I buy the game on either steam or bethesda's site? Can I only ever access ESO via steam if I purchase it here, despite my accounts being linked and vice versa?

I am not sure people say they had issues with the steam version before, mine seems to be fine and only took 30 mins to download if I remember correctly.

That does not answer my question though. I downloaded ESO for the free weekend and all, everything worked fine.

What i would like to know is whether purchasing it on steam gives me the same accessability I would get when not buying it on steam.
For example, people that bought ESO prior to steam launch complained that they would have to buy it again if they wanted to be able to link their accounts and access it on here.

Considering you have to make an account with an email I highly doubt that, they had to of messed something up, maybe try google.

I did do a quick search before posting, but nothing recent turned up on the topic.

Thanks for your help, though. Let's see who else finds their way to this thread.

Just found this second one down on first google page,

https://forums.elderscrollsonline.com/en/discussion/301506/new-eso-functionality-on-steam

If you scroll down you learn that people who bought it somewhere else cannot play it off steam unless they bought a copy off steam, is this what you heard about?
Mithilius Nov 20, 2016 @ 10:07pm
That's exactly what I heard about, yeah. Unfortunately, it doesn't say anything about whether steam customers are also only able to access ESO via steam.

Probably a somewhat silly notion, but I'd really like to know which method of purchasing has more options to access the game.

If a steam purchase allows me to access the game via its official website, it's very clear where I am going to purchase it. If I will be forced to always use it via steam, I might think about getting it on their official website.

OK, I've long played this game before it was available through steam. I decided to create a new account this weekend through steam and I have gone ahead and purchased the game for my new steam account.

I definitely can only log in with my steam created account only through steam and my original non-steam account only can be logged in through my original launcher.

Shucks, thanks for letting me know!

As an ESO veteran, would you mind letting me know which you prefer so far and why?

Are you certain? I mean, this stands in complete contradiction to what Woodinvillian wrote earlier.

Why shouldnt it? In the end, its the same launcher? Same with warthunder, star trek online, neverwinter and so on

Very well.

Thanks for all your responses, lads! :steamhappy:
