Templar is more like preist for healing https://alcasthq.com/eso-magicka-templar-healer-build-pve/ , in this game any class can be range dps because you have multiple weapons and sometimes some skills can be morphed into ranged skills, for healing templar is for you if you want something like priest as dps I dont know destro staff maybe is like that ;).

Well first off understand that the way classes and skills in ESO works isn't typical of the WoW style MMORPG. It works a lot more like the single player Elder Scrolls games. You can do whatever you want regardless of your starting class/race and usually be able to do fairly well till you hit veteran level dungeons and end game PvP.

With that in mind there are race/classes more suited to certain play styles then others. But typically you don't want to split your skill points to much. You typically want to focus on one of the three core skills of health, magic, and stamina. Then you need to decide what the role you want to specialize in first is. Later on you can work on another, similar roll, but at first try to focus on being say...a healer instead of trying to split focus between healer and sorcerer.

But the beauty of ESO is that for basic PvE it doesn't really matter to much. Do what you think is fun.

I would say play how you want and don't worry about the build if you are new player, at least until you are 160cp, experince the game how you want, test all skill lines, all armors, weapons, guild skills and world skills then when you ready to make your build you can just reset you skill points all skill line you learned won't be reseted. Play a templar how you wan't you can't make a build until 160cp because you will make lv fast and items will become junk every time leveling until 160cp. Gl.

In eso, classes are 3 skill lines out of 20+. Everything else is cross class. They are pretty much lore theme skills fitting the theme of the class (yet they are still important playstyle wise). Every class can be built as a mage, warrior, healer or tank.

Templars are aedras (gods-like) followers, they use light and healing magic and can summon a divine spear to strike.
Sorcerers are the opposite, they are daedra (demons-like) followers and summon lessers daedras to fight with them and use dark and lightning magic.
Nightblades are illusionists and assassins, they can use illusion and draining magic and assasination techniques.
Dragon knights are warriors using akaviri martial arts. Poison techniques, dragon theme earth and fire magic.
Wardens are a mix between rangers and druids. They use nature theme healing magic, have animal familiars and use frost magic.

How I would do it is make 2 builds on one character, one focused mostly on DPS and the other on healing and support. Use an add on like Dressing room to easily swap gear sets and skills when you need one or the other.

I'd recommend Templar Healer then if you're new. I run a Dragon Knight Heavy Armor healer and can deal modest DPS too, though I'm in melee range and I can essentially tank when the actual tank goes down. And that's with easy to obtain gearsets, though I easily have 300 skills points put into this char and need more for passives still. Plus until I hit 810 CP I'm not going to deal as much damage or heal as much as a Templar does without running out of Magicka. They just have better magic efficiency on their healing, period. Idk about doing ranged damage on them though, while healing... You're definitely not going to be a Discipline priest (which was kinda what I based my build upon to be honest), though I'm sure you could feel like it with the right setup. Just remember, healers in this game are meant to buff the party and give them resources, not deal DPS or be a pocket healer. We CAN deal DPS and pocket heal, but generally I'm too busy trying to keep people buffed and topped off.
Templars make great Healers. Sorcerers are versatile and make very good Healers too. But any class can be terrific as a Healer if you morph the healing spells from the Mages guild and do the the Psijic skill line to the full to get the Psijic healing spells. One of the Psijic spells turns your staff into medicine. Instead of dealing damage to enemies, you turn it on your pals and deal healing.
