Need explanation on the ultimate ability

I am a new player and I tried to find the info on how the ultimate ability works but only get bits and pieces so I need some help please.

What I understand you need to generate ultimate points with light attacks. I saw numbers going up on the bar and it can reach up to 500.

For the ultimate to proc do I just push R or do I need to do something else after pushing R for it to proc. when they talk about it they talk about doing light attack and have a heavy in between. That's where I get confused. I know my ultimate did proc once but I don't know how I did it. Lol

It's not nuclear physics. You engage in battle, the meter fills and you press R to activate it. Do you really need to start a thread on this? Seriously?

Well, what is your character class, skill line and the exact ultimate? Some ultimates are instant cast, I dont know if there are any passives, and some are mode changes, such as destruction spell ultimate. Destruction spell ultimate gives you a 3rd spell bar, sheaths your weapons and you can then attack with light/heavy attacks without having to re-cast your ultime, with each attack draining the ultimate points, after which if you run out, the ultimate goes into cool down.

Ultimate is a Resource that generates while you are in combat, key ways to generate Ultimate is by:

Attacking (With either Skills/Abilities, Light/Heavy attacks, or being hit by attacks)

Ultimate is capped at 500 Ultimate, and for each Class there are 3 Ultimate Abilities apart of the
3 Skill Trees, and single Ultimates apart of most Guild Skills and Weapon Skills. These Ultimates can be used to deliver deadly blows of damage, or to protect yourself in massive shielding/damage reduction for Tanking, or healing.

When you have enough Ultimate, your Ultimate-Slotted ability will glow and ping a distinctive noise, you then press R, or whatever ability you have for casting Ultimates, and it will be casted.

I ask because when I first got that ability and push that button nothing happened as why I ask for an explanation then all a sudden I see a number in that box and probably touch it by mistake and it proc.

I hope next time someone ask a question you refrain yourself to answer if you don't have any constructive comments to make. That goes also to the other guy as well.

You are over complicating it. Ultimate Abilities are just another skill. They just do more damage so their use is limited and tied to the ultimate bar. How it's used is just like any other skill on your skill bar however.

Yes I know that now. The first time I tried it it did not work so I was wondering is there something I am doing wrong. Tks for the people that help.
