Skyshard changes OUT! (but you have to pay) *updated*
so how does everyone feel about them addressing a concern players have had or rather an annoyance players have about making ults and having to farm skyshards?

for anyone who missed out during their pax east streams they have said a skyshard change will be coming to ESO when the expansion comes out.

players will be able to skip the skyshard farming on alternate characters if one of your characters already has that achievement for the shards FOR PURCHASE.

it sounds amazing, they're giving us a way to skip the tedious skyshard farming, i can't imagine people doing it with maxed out character slots. so i was super excited to hear about this change coming up until they ended it off with for purchase.

the next day on their 2nd livestream they confirmed it will be done by the crownstore and players will not be able to gift it to you as it will be achievement based.

so the questions are:

  • Are you upset about the changes being something you have to purchase for 22,250 crowns? *
  • Would you purchase it or just farm skyshard like normally?
  • How do you feel about them acknowledging player feedback in this way?
  • Would you pay more than 150$ to catch up a new character to where your main is? *
  • Do you think the price point is justified? *

context:
announcement: https://www.twitch.tv/videos/403037417?t=05h41m04s
confirmation you have to use crownstore: https://www.twitch.tv/videos/403596314?t=02h30m59s
more details on how it will work: https://www.twitch.tv/videos/403596314?t=02h32m12s

edit: *update* 5/20

so now that skyshard skipping has been implemented it was worse than i thought it would be.

I understand it's not for everyone and their main target is people who have a bunch of money and don't care about it or don't want to farm shards but this is a little over the top.

considering they have heard players do not like farming on new characters a fix/work around is a nice idea on paper but the way it's been implemented is a bit upsetting.

and who knows maybe it will not be as bad since its a crown store feature and they can do sales on it. even if it was 1 time fee for all characters you make after buying it would be more justified.

currently as it is, over 150$ spent per character to catch up to where your main is seems absurd.

I can't stand it, i'm happy the change has been thought of and they're listening to player feedback but so annoyed you will be billed per char you want to do it on if you do want to "skyshard catch up"

it feels like a bit of the slap to the face to tell us there is a fix, they've heard our feedback and instead of just giving us the quality of life improvement they're going to sell it to us.

"we've heard ppl don't like skyshard farming, so here is a fix but only for money"
"if not go back to the way ppl don't like"

thanks zos

They have to make their money back somehow on Fallout 76. I don't think they really care about their reputation anymore since they thought it was a good idea to put an ingame store in single player games. At least we still have CD Project Red to be a shinning beacon on the hill. Hopefully there are some publishers left who haven't been blinded by greed that will be able to see the light.

Let's face it, it's for eso+ players as they has a stack of crowns sitting in their account.

IDK. You'd think the expansion would good enough on top of + members.

Just seems doesn't sit well with me for them to take or listen to player feedback then turn around and sell them the fix.

Idk if the ZOS ESO team has anything to do with that 76 mess anyways but it def sucks to see them charging for something we have been wanting and asking for

I guess.

Just feels like a slap to the face to acknowledge the players wants for quality of life improvement and say yeah we will sell it to you. Otherwise go back to that tedious skyshard farming we have heard you didn't like so that's why we are selling it

Yeah but it's coming with the new expansion so it's just sad that the changes ppl have been wanting will cost you per char. Idk maybe it's just me who feels this way.

Zenimax owns Bethesda. I'm fine with buying their expansions and dlcs. I know it takes money to run servers. I'm fine with em selling cosmetics in b2p games. I'm not fine with quality of life sales. It's too close to p2w for me.

Assuming this isn't an April Fool's thing..

Except it's not p2w, at all. At most, it's pay4convenience, and you can't even buy the things if you don't have the corresponding achievement requirements.

I was wondering myself when something like this would come about, and I'm fine with it being a Crown Store purchase. Honestly, the Skyshard/skill point grind is one of the things that's kept me from leveling alts in this game. I've been playing since release and I JUST leveled another character to 50 the other day.

Now what am I doing? Well, since I managed to get that character to 50 before getting out of Stonefalls, I'm now moving through story quests (skill points) throughout the following zones, while also collecting Skyshards, soloing world bosses, and doing group events in public dungeons (also skill points).

Kind of annoying, but it's fine.

Now, if a brand-new player was able to just open up the Crown Store and buy up all the Skyshards outright? Yeah, I'd say that would be a little p2w since it would give you a blatant advantage over those who might not be ESO+ or able to even purchase Crowns.

Would I purchase those things on my DK since my Nightblade has collected them all already? Absolutely, depending on the cost. And even then, I'd still have to finish zone story quests, do public dungeon events, etc. to get any more skill points.

Also worth noting here: the alt I just got done leveling I did a lot of BGs with to farm the Firedrake set. Of course, while doing this I gained alliance points, and my Alliance War line leveled up. I'm not sure exactly how they're awarded (every 1000 AP?), or if there's even a cap on the amount you can get this way, but BGs are actually pretty fun and also a good way to get some skill points.

It's not an April fools and I never said it was p2w. I said it was too close to being like p2w for me. That's my opinion, and I'm allowed to have it. If ESO wasn't my favorite mmo, I wouldn't even bother to buy their dlcs or expansions because they're not necessary to have a full and fun game experience. I put in over 700 hrs in the base game alone. If they want to sell a skyshard cheat, even if it is only for alts, let them. I'll just get my skyshards on my alts the way it was intended. With all the stuff the company as a whole has pulled lately, I'm very unlikely to support any of their new games. There's no way I'm laying my money down on Rage 2.

BDO had their white knights defending their quality of life monetization and look at it now. It's full on p2w. Hopefully Zenimax won't go that far, but who knows? Who would've thought they would've put in-game stores in old single player games?

its def not pay to win but it is pay to be lazy, pay for convience. you will still have to level your skills get your gear get to 50 etc. its just stupid that they are selling us a fix to an issue we have been complaining about for awhile. and you are 100% right about it being a slippery slope.

if they are going to sell us fixes instead of just tweaking the game to the fix or allowing players to use gold as well as crowns it wouldn't be so bad.

but that's not the case so pay up or do it the way we have heard players don't like.
Keyrala Apr 1, 2019 @ 8:10pm
Well nobody is forcing you to be lazy...

totally the point of the conversation. :steamfacepalm:

they have heard player feedback know its a dislike in the community for those who want to make and play ults and instead of tweaking the game to give everyone the fix they are charging ppl for it per character.

regardless of if i choose to buy it or not or farm the skyshards boringly. it's the practice behind what they are doing.

we've heard you don't like doing it and here is a fix but only if you pay otherwise go back to what we have heard players dislike.

it's whatever tho not everyone cares about it and some ppl do just trying to see how everyone feels about

Killance Apr 1, 2019 @ 8:58pm
Sounds like a change for the eso+ members since crowns can just stack up over time.

Also what is a fix? You make it seem like a bug that skyshards aren't account wide. Sounds to me a design choice to make players play more.
