Confused about the class system
I'm trying ESO and im kinda confused about the classes and the abilities. I made a DK and I wanted to play a 2H melee build. I also see that all my class abilities use magicka and my weapon abilities use stamina. Everywhere I read/watch says only level stamina or magicka but not both. Does that mean I will only be able to use either my class skills or weapon skills?

The reason for that is because abilities that use either Stamina or Magicka have their effectiveness based on how much of that resource you have.

For instance, a Stamina ability (Cleave, from the 2H tree for example) is going to deal more damage the more Stamina you have. If you pump all your attribute points in to Magicka, it will leave your Stamina pitifully low, thus reducing the damage/healing of all Stamina abilities.

This was done to keep people from being able to "do it all" with one character build.

So if you want to play a 2H build that focuses mainly on weapon strikes, put all your attribute points in to Stamina when you level. A lot of class abilities also get a "morph" when they reach rank 4, which will convert it in to a Stamina ability.

Two such skills for the DK is Searing Strike and Flaming Breath/Fire Breath/whatever it's called.

Searing Strike morphs in to Venomous Claw; it converts to a Stamina ability and deals Poison damage. The breath ability morphs in to Noxious Breath; it converts to a Stamina ability, deals Poison damage, and also applies Major Fracture to all targets hit, which lowers their physical resistance.. which in turns makes your melee attacks against them stronger.

Would a DK be okay for a 2h melee char? A few people have told me that DK is either a tank or magic dps.

Yeah Stamina DK is a bit less powerful when compared to other Stamina Classes but still there is no huge difference. You'll deal like 3-5% less dmg than a Nightblade. No big deal.

Also, while stamina builds use stamina for attack skills, there are buffs skills that cost magicka but are useful for stamina chars.

The self heal in draconic powers is one (dragon blood), since one of the morphs regen stamina faster. there is also the damage buff in earthen heart, one of the morphs gives weapon damage buff.

As for a weapon, one that synergize greatly with DK is actually the bow, since poison bow skills are buffed by poison passives from the DK flame skill line. And they add to the 2 stamina dot from the Dk (the claws and the breath).
The DK also has good physical ultimates, the standard is a good buff for melee chars, the dragon leap does good physical damage (physical = stamina) and the magma armor morph deals poison damage (poison=stamina) and gives you a buff that makes your attacks ignore physical resistance (on top of making you unkillable while the ult is active).

Also don't forget class passives, almost all of them help stamina builds. A good example of this is the sorcerer, the class has about 3 actives skills useful for stamina builds (which are 2 buffs and one buff/damage aura), but very good damage passives that work with stamina, making it one of the best stamina class, despite being the one with the most limited arsenal at the beginning.
