IMPORTANT: Update 25 - Steam FAQ

Starting on February 24, 2020, all PC/Mac players needed to download Update 25, which included a massive patching overhaul. Read more about that from the article linked at the bottom of this post.

The Steam client has NOW been updated to include Update 25!

Any Steam players who do not have ESO installed will be able to download the base game up to Update 25 without the two-step download process from yesterday.

The total download size for ESO+Update 25 is 78.9 GB. Your drive may ask for up to 90 GB of space.

If you already have up to Update 24 but waited to update, your update should only be 50-60 GB.

Players who already finished downloading up to Update 25 will not need to re-download again.

Your final game file size should be ~90 GB with all three languages.
You do not need to delete ANYTHING manually. Just let the patcher run its course.

I Can't Even Launch the Game / Encountering Fatal Error 6

If you are stuck at a certain percentage during the patcher download for an extended period of time OR when you launch the game you are greeted with "Fatal Error 6," try repairing your game files in the launcher.

This usually occurs if there is a disconnect between the data you downloaded and the data you should have downloaded from the patch. Please try repairing your files to make sure the update processes properly. This will restart your download process after you repair by selecting the "Repair" option from the Game Options drop-down in the launcher.

If you are not sure about your ESO account credentials, select the "Account Recovery" option, which will open a ticket for recovering your account. You can also describe any other issues you're having with the download in the same ticket.

How Can I Save Space?

Deleting PTS without Deleting ESO

If you downloaded ESO on PTS, note that it is a separate download from the live version of the game. Now that Update 25 is live, you can delete the files for PTS. On the ESO launcher, select the "PTS" option on the left, select "Game Options" in the center underneath the NEWS tile, then hit "Uninstall."

Can I Save Space by Removing Extra Languages?

UPDATED March 5, 2020:

After downloading ESO completely, you can safely remove the VO folders for languages you do not use. For additional updates, the patcher will only update the VO files for any languages you already have installed.

Note that if you completely uninstall ESO in the future, if you return and re-download the game, you will be required to re-download all available VO languages. After that point, it is safe to remove the languages you do not use. Each VO folder will be approximately 10 GB each.

My Controller is Not Working Anymore

Update 25 has the Gamepad mode turned off as a default.

While in-game, go to Settings > Gameplay > set Gamepad Beta to ON.

I Have a New Bug / I'm Crashing

We identified a number of major crashes and pushed a hotfix for those on March 2nd.

Please note that until add-on authors update their add-ons, you may also crash while using add-ons.

I would love an option to delete unused languages. ESO is a HUGE game, and I also play other massive titles like Red Dead and Destiny 2.

Saving space wherever you can is a top priority.

I did not delete them yet. I read launcher only downloads the selected language on install screen (it asks). So steam version's launcher is different and doesn't have a language identity. They should ask steam to set and tie installer language selection for VO download.

EDIT: Is it too much to ask for a download timer on the launcher? 3 hours reminaing,30 hours remaining, who the ♥♥♥♥ knows ?

Why would you assume we don't care how long the downloads are going to be?

not going to even touch class balance or any in-game issues because I will get really really angry and write a damn paragraph on how this game has been spiraling down since I bought it... What really sucks is being a elder scrolls fanboy during these times...so depressing I wish this title wasn't so close to death....

in case you're doing something ............. "to the expense cart of abnormal problems" was added the following thing , 0 stamina regeneration ... why ? to return it to normal value and make regeneration work again I have to close and restart the game ...

after taking 14 hours to download this patch now I can not use any controller on my pc for this game nor any other steam game, I have tried 4 different controllers. ESO SUCKS!!!!!

Could be antivirus app interfering. And also check if eso.exe exists on task manager > Details tab

After the update, Cyrodill is still the same as last year. Lags, high pings, freeze on fights makes it unplayable, not fun..... they need to improve their servers quality...... Worst mmo gameplay !

Again ESO won`t patch. Same problem A month ago when I was down over a week on the PC. This is getting old on steam happing just about every time it patches. HOW long this time maybe 2 wks or more this time. I just wanted to play my game that I paid for thru ESO plus and all the Dlc`s I brought. Damm! .....I paid alot of money out on this game and the only refund I can get for this game is 39.00$
