Upgrading Jewelery Not Worth It?
I've been looking to get a full set of Briarheart Jewelry and I finally got a Blue Briarheart Collar. So I figured that I'd try to upgrade it seeing as it would likely be cheaper than buying it outright. Turns out, even with the plating passive at max, you still need 3 plates, each of which are ~25k and you can just buy a Purple Briarheart Collar for 40k. I decided to look into this, and it seems to be the case for a lot of the pieces of any jewelry set. Am I missing something here or is it truely just better to buy the jewelry outright and sell platings?

Some jewelery or items are auto bound to you after a certain amount of times passed or selective cases. I.E. dungeons or trials.... then you'd have no choice but to upgrade it yourself...

Jewelry platings & grains are expensive because they are harder to get than other mats.

In your case it's ofc better to buy Briarheart jewelry in purple like in every other overland set.
Overland sets are easy to farm and not rare. Getting purple jewelry doesn't take much time.
The prices for purple jewelry are low and ofc no one would bother upgrading overland sets, if not to legendary ofc.

Upgrading Jewelry is worth it all the time, because the best sets drop in trials and dungeons, which means that you can not buy them. So you only can upgrade them.

Ah I see. So it's better to just buy overland sets and such but the trial and dungeon sets that you can't get elsewhere, you have no choice but to upgrade. Makes sense.

Well, random golded jewellery items are sold by the Golden Merchant every weekend. This is the current offer:

It may take a while, but you should be able to buy golden jewellery there, eventually. I am not sure if trial sets do get sold by the Golden, dungeon sets certainly do.

Of course you can buy stuff at the GV intead of upgrading, but it takes a lot of time until the right items are offered. ((Too long if you are focusing end-game.))

It should only offer group dungeon sets, if it would drop trial sets every pleb could get BiS Gear.

It's worth it if you have 14 master crafters
