GW2 actually is Play for free, so you can play until max level and all base content without paying. Try it! I spent like a 1.000 hrs on it
Now I'm on ESO because class' builds are different and cause Dungeons and Raids are more challenging. I never tried PvP very well here, but it seems quite good
(sorry for my english)
Becuase I am thinking which game should I play very deeply. I don't have too much time, so I only can choose one. I like to play a game which need a lot of technique then it need to be very challenging. I like Dark-Soul series, but unfortunately, Dark-Soul series isn't MMO.
Then I met ESO, I feel his fight-way is a little like dark-soul.
but my level is 15, so I feel ESO is easy fight game.
at the late game, ESO will be very interesting or very difficult?
BTY, ESO story is better than GW2 or not?
If you are asking about raid content, there isn't much. You have trials which is more or less ESO's version of raid/end game content.
If by late game you mean max level (50) without doing trials, you still do all the normal dungeons you have been doing except you can elect to do veteran difficulty versions of the same dungeons. Additionally, veteran dungeons, on the final boss, you can elect to trigger "hard mode" to bump the difficulty up higher if you want to.
On veteran, you receive rarer equipment as well as special monster set gear (head) on final boss.
To do veterans, you typically need 300 champion points on top of you being level 50. Champion points are additional "levels" that give you points to spend in a separate ability menu that augment your skills/abilities further and thus making you deal more damage, heal more, harder to kill, etc.
This one is entirely subjective. Elder scrolls lore is pretty interesting and has been around for a very long time.
As for static/established lore, ESO beats GW2 by a country mile. As for living lore, however, GW2 does a much better job in regards actually experiencing/playing the storyline imo. Don't misunderstand, I think ESO does a good job with regards to their storyline, but it doesn't last very long, whereas GW2 always has something going on.
GW2 has constant events. Some of the events are periodic affairs you'll see pop up on your map from time to time. They range from escort, rescue, seige and boss kill missions - among others. You'll also have static world boss mobs like ESO does except they tend to be much more interesting (and usually harder) than the ESO versions.
Additionally, GW2 has initial zone events going on that you'll experience when you are first playing the storyline associated with the zone. The zone will change as you complete quests/advance storyline. ESO does a little bit of this, but not very much. GW2 does this better.
Playstyle/Mechanics:
In ESO, you have two skill bars with 5 abilities and one ultimate in each for a total of 12 skills to use. You have to swap back and forth between skill bars. You have multiple weapon types that have their own skill trees and abilities. It's largely meant to be played using a controller, but you can use either controller or Mouse/keyboard.
GW2 isn't meant to be played with a controller. If being able to easily play with a controller is important to you, then go with ESO.
GW2 doesn't do any crap like leveling up weapon skills like ESO does. You pick a weapon category and the skills you have available will be based on your class and the weapon you use. Unlike ESO, GW2 will often have you swapping weapons based on what fits not only your playstyle, but also the upcoming fight.
For example, as a necromancer in GW2, blunt weapons will primarily inflict harmful conditions and damage over time abilities with some limited direct damage. Staff weapons will be long range but also area of effect. Daggers will be in your face direct damage with some abilities inflicting bleed damage over time. Axes will be medium ranged abilities you can use to kite with as well as at least one ability that does mulitple strikes for high damage stacking. You also have warhorns and something else that are typically used when dual wielding that either provide buffs or debuffs via skills.
In short, when it comes to playstyle mechanics, GW2 has far more variety and flexibilty when it comes to how you can play your character. GW2 also has actual talent trees you can spec into later in game (where you can buff existing skills and/or acquire new abilities) whereas ESO just has champion points that boost existing skills.
Content:
GW2 has far more content, both on a solo basis and group basis. GW2 also has end game raid content called fractals (if i recall correctly).
Closing:
If you are looking for a purely casual experience where you can sit back with a controller and chill, ESO is probably your game.
If you are looking for an all around experience with solid content at all levels, as well as pretty solid character mechanics, GW2 is probably your game.
Both are free to play after initial purchase of game.
One more thing to note: unlike ESO, GW2 doesn't charge you extra for DLC content if you are an active player. You get new stuff for free. However, if you take a break and aren't on when stuff is being released within a certain window of time, you'll have to purchase it later on.
i have tried gw2 and i didnt like it so i cant speak for its difficulty but what i have seen from its story it seems like the main quest is MUCH better then eso mainquest, i cant recall any sidequests though, eso sidequests can be funny to generic to pls not again, i assume gw2 is the same
1 thing i do remember from gw2 is that the difficulty of the game depends on what class u play, if u play elementalist or mesmer the game can be very challanging, not bc the classes r weak but because they need alot of micromanaging to be effective, if u play eso every class plays the same: buff up, place ur dots and then use ur spammable until buffs and dots run out then rince and repeat
also eso has many bugs and performance issues and bullys u with tons of crap mats until u submit to eso+ and its crafting bag but it is very addicting and can keep u busy for 100's of hours until u realise how ♥♥♥♥ the game actually is ^^
Main Story
ESO: Main story - is meh and you have the feeling beeing forced to listen to the stupid prophet for hours, faction quest, I love them. Take the faction quests + side quests on the map and you have a single player full game and here three times. The DLC quests are good
GW2; Main story, somekind OK, it's not always the same, the end is the same but about 60% of the questst depends of you class/race. The "side quests" vere a little different there are some that you accept and then do it but the most were "events" were you jump in and finish them and at the end you get the reward. Have no idea about the two addons
There is also someting like the living world: Quests that are part of the game and you can replay them unless you are a new player than you have to buy them because they were only free for the player who played the game when they arrived
PvP
ESO: Cyrodill with faction vs faction vs faction (the only place were it matters) + imperial dungeon: somekind pve + pvp (DLC or ESO+) the map is to big it's a riding simulator, you will met super strong sinlge players or zergs.
Battlegrounds 4vs4vs4, fast action, they are trying to balance people, however equipment matters a lot
GW2 Server wars, also 3 factions, but they change if you server sucks you will fight next week agains someone weaker and if you are strong agains stronger guys, but the same single super PKs or zergs, however smaller map = more action less riding or no riding at all.
Don't know how they call the battlegrounds there (arena ?) but two teams and the equipment is standart so noone fights there with his weapons/armor + the skills were standart (a low level char is upgraded to maxlevel with the skills) but you can choose the skills/equipent you will use.
Crafting:
Both were the same I thing you can craft but you don't have to in both, from the complicity and grining it's the same. As I remember you could create super cool flashy weapons in GW2 (the same stats as the best wepons but shiny...) but it was also a grindfest to get them.
I feel in both games good as a crafter.
Skills/fight:
ESO: You have you weapon+class+guild skills that you can combine as you want 5 + ultimate for 2 weapons sets that you can swap during the fight. It's more action then classic RPG. Most times it works pretty solid.
GW2: 5 weaponskill (depents on the weapon you cannot change them, sword has a set for them bow has one and so one but they are also differnt by class -> ranger has other bowskills as warrior has) + skill 6 is always a healing skill ALWAYS there are differnts skills for each class but it's a heal 7-9 class skills can be chosen and the 10th is some kind of ultimate. Also two weapon sets like ESO, swaping weapons olnly change the weapons skills the other 5 remaines the same. Style is also more Action then RPG somehow more fun then ESO.
Economy:
ESO: Playerstyle -> playerguild sell the stuff on markets on special places, you have to be a member of the guild to sell there (you can be in max 5 guilds)
GW2: classic -> trading post no trade guilds just put the stuff there and sell
Loading screens, technical:
ESO: long, to long, don't buy it on steam -> many problems...
GW2: ok
World:
I like the ESO lore much more, more stories, better characters GW2 is trying but somehow I don't realy care for the problems of the people there it was like "less talking more riding".
And in short
ESO better quests story, you can be a Werwolf (or a useless Vampire)
GW2 better fighting system, PvP, servers (the techinic part). I thing it's in PvE more cassual as ESO
oh and in GW2 there are some kind of jump and run challenges, I hate them.
But both good games in the end, they were on the top of the MMOs today.
Eso updates alot, even Skyrim DLC is not out yet, it would be awsome.
i vote for ESO, better than WOW too... and i liked wow more than GW2 :D
It's got an older high fantasy vibe to it.
Did I mention you can play the main story with a buddy? It's not solo-only like in ESO's main story. And yes you have to buy the Living World stories AND expansions, but for Living World if you're playing with a friend or group, only one person needs to buy it. Anyone in the party gets to play it as shared content. Expansions though have to be bought to get anything from them whatsoever. But they aren't too pricey for the amount of content given. Including new gameplay mechanics. Since it's aged, it may not agree with your PC 100% once in awhile, like how in highly congested towns I get a little bit of slowdown despite running the same situation in ESO flawlessly. But other than that it runs great.
You really don't have anything to lose but free time trying out GW2, the entire base game is 100% free. No limitations for it, cash shop is for convenience and skins/outfits and you can actually trade gold for cash shop currency. ESO you have to pay $20 and hope you like it or not within the refund limit.
