The Elder Scrolls Online

Do they seriously charge you to join guilds?
It's like most basic and core thing in Elder Scrolls and i need to dish-out 2000 of their made up money for that?

I'm really enjoying the game but c'mon ... i already paid for it ;)

If you mean player guilds, there is no Crowns fee.

If you mean Fighters guild and Mages guild, there is no Crowns fee either.

If you mean Thieves Guild, Dark Brotherhood, and Psijic Order, the those are included in DLC, or rather a chapter in case of the latter. Yes, you have to pay for those.

You wouldn't seriously expect to pay EUR 20 (or 10 on sale) for such a high quality MMORPG, that needs a continuous stream of income to maintain the servers and pay the staff, including the development of new content, and be done with it, now, would you?

No i wouldnt but guilds ( including thieves and darkbrother hood ) seems like integral part of the series to me :) I understand they need constant flow of cash and they try to charge you for many different little things which is okay i guess but guilds? Nai.

The guilds DLCs also include a quest series, and new areas + new daily qusts so there are much more then just the quilds, however you could have bought The Elder Scrolls Online Collection, there are the DLCs included also eso+ gives you access to all DLCs and if you want it all but don't want to pay anything simply wait every 3 months everyone gets eso+ for a week for free, then you can play the guilds quests and level you guild skill, you will not be able to level them when the free eso+ is over but you will keep your skills.

You aren't charged to be in guilds.. at least, not anything to do with real money.

As others have stated, anything beyond the Fighter's Guild, Mage's Guild, and Undaunted enclave is all part of DLCs.

Dark Brotherhood has at least one passive that is essentially mandatory; it causes your threat radius to be reduced by 50% while mounted. It means you can essentially plow through everything while you're mounted and nothing will attack you, unless you land on their head.

Thieve's Guild.. is kind of underwhelming. I guess it's okay if you use thievery to make money, as one of the passives increases the amount of gold you get for fencing goods by 2% per sale, up to 8%? (4 ranks, 2% each I believe).. but outside of that? It's kind of boring in my opinion.

Psijic Order I haven't touched yet, as I haven't even finished the third faction's story quests on my main character. From there, I would go through the Morrowind chapter, and on to Summerset after that.

What I can tell you about Psijic Order, though, is that it has some really nifty skills, and some builds require at least one of them; some require two. (There are exceptions to those, of course, but if you're min/maxing even remotely in PvE you'll want those skills.)

Now.. player guilds (ie: NOT Fighter/Mage/Undaunted/DBH/etc.). Some of the trading guilds DO charge a weekly fee, anywhere from 2000g to 5000g. Some of the bigger, more illustrious trading guilds require more weekly fees than that. While I don't necessarily like this, and feel like a simple automated tax on all sales that went in to the guild's bank would suffice, it does cost a lot of gold to secure a trader location at a major city where your goods are sure to sell. (Typically, the guilds who hold down a spot for their trader in a major city charge the most in weekly dues due to the cost of having their trader there.)

So there's that.

If you don't mind farming a lot and selling things, it's the fastest way to make money in the game. But, you have to have a reliable source for said goods for it to work well; unless, of course, you want to dedicate your time in-game simply to farm and make gold.

I prefer to actually play the game and do fun things.. like Maelstrom Arena, even though it's giving me PTSD to try and complete it. :)

I think this is what op got dragged into.
Only worth it if you are a proper trader.
Most player guilds don't charge a fee.

Do you mean buying the Thieves Guild DLC? or joining guilds in game? You're not charged to join guilds in game, if you mean the Thives Guild, they made it a DLC. I agree with the fact it should be part of the base game but that's just how they made it

I am pretty certain the OP was complaining about having to pay for guilds DLC with Crowns.
