The Elder Scrolls Online
ESO is a job... a long, tedious job.
Don't get me wrong, the game has potential but after almost 500 hours in game, I feel ready to call it quits and I haven't even started a lot of the content.

The way that the devs have resorted to using daily login bonuses and other schemes to turn what should be FUN into a job just kills the game for me.

But where you are right as far as eso being a second job, is when it comes to various grinding elemets of the game such as:

- horse training to full stats=180 days, character based so each character has to do separate 180 days horse training
- crafting skills leveling and especially trait research = up to a year to research every possible piece of armor/weapons for every one of 9 traits each, also character based
- gear grind by running same dungeons over and over till you get gear you need (thankfully gear can be shared between your characters)
- CP grind (thankfully this is also shared between characters) etc
...
@Wo1f, it's more discussion worthy if we knew he meant the typical mmo grind aspects, instead of trying to reassert himself after his previous thread on how devs forcing him to grind an Indrik mount destroyed everything he found fun about the game got locked

No doubt he will likely agree with your sentiments on the mmo grind if only to agree with himself as if that was his intention all along.

God knows he did make a job out of editing his initial post in his previous thread daily to put himself in a better limelight.

Same as "I have to visit the supermarket every day again, because they are handing out free samples of cheese. How dare they. It's so bad. I hate them." :steamsalty:

this i do agree, as a guy who already played MMO since i'm in elementary school, MMORPG is a job, a tedious, tiring job, i honestly don't know where the fun is, why i still play ESO ?, merely for the quest and lore....well and the trial sometimes with friends, everything with friends is fun, even as tedious as MMO

Well put! Even Fallout 76 might be fun with friends lol!

OP is right in a way.

Altho log-in daily rewards are not something you absolutely have to do.

The rewards themselves as rather symbolic (such as some gold/ap points/consumables/xp scrolls etc) and are meant to reward players who are logging in daily anyway.

So unless they are giving away some big reward such as a house/mount/dlc which requires you to log in and claim the rewards every day for a certain number of days within 1 month (and even then if you dont need/want such a reward, you do not have to log in daily), you DO NOT HAVE TO log in, you can just ignore eso if you do not feel like playing at the moment, and you woun't be missing out much.

The only way in which you can play eso and not make it turn into a second job is if you were to play eso as a completely single player game by only doing quests and overland stuff including delves/pub dungeons/dolmens and nothing else (no crafting, no group dungeons, no pvp) and only use gear you get from quests or find in chests in overland zones while destroying/selling to npc merchants what you do not need.

PS: For those that said they have many half-finished characters, here is some freindly advice to make the leveling a bit easier:

Take the character you like playing the most (you like the class and skills etc) and make sure to get at least that one character to level 50 CP 160 (which is gear level cap).
Then when you want to level other characters, you can assign your CP points to other
characters even if they are below level 50 (in other words, as soon as you make a new
char, you can assing the CP points to it) which will make your low level chars stronger
and less of a pain to level up.

You also do not need to finish quests on every single character, once you finish certain
quest lines on 1 character, it is no longer fun or efficient to finish the same quests on other
characters, there is plenty of dlc content to do besides the main game quests, so don't
waste time by doing same quests over and over on every char.

This post is well-thought out and actually contains useful information. A real breath of fresh air!

You called it.
Im not sure if he is even reading the whole post he agrees with, and just stops reading after he spots,,i agree with you''.

Like i said before, the OP is NOT interested in a healthy discussion,so its just a matter of time before this thread gets locked too.
is a mmo with free choices. You need to choose your path, in my case I divide between pvp and pve with focus on pvp, I do random quests, I did the main quest but the sidequests I do randomly, I do not hold anything ... The daily rewards are not much relevant most of the time, taking that month from 1 dlc I think all the others were expendable. I loved the fact that it was possible to buy crown with gold, this made the game much better and fluid
Every MMO wants you to think it's a job, they give you incentives and treadmills to log in and try to get you to play as much as possible. That's their job as a game. The trick is to understand, if you're not already one of the tip-top players in the game, which if you are you're probably already putting boatloads of time in to it, you have very little incentive to actually keep up with constant daily/weekly demands. Well, are one or are aiming to be one.

Just play and enjoy the game.

this pre-cu wookiee jedi (SWG) laughs at your complaints of tedium and grind. ;)
just don't care about your level and items and do quest lines. They are don't require hight level, large amount of gold or hight quality gear. But they are really interesting.
My introduction to the Elder Scrolls was Morrowind. I spent hundreds of hours playing and even more time modding. Never once did I think:

"Wow! This is just pointless busywork. I don't even want to do it but the game reminds me that I need to or else I'll miss out every time I turn on the launcher."

Beware,long post incoming.

Morrowind is a singleplayer game, singleplayer games tend to offer more options to play the game how you personally want to,all by yourself, you can(depending on the game)alter everything with mods and no one will complain, because there is no competition. You close the game, and the whole ingame world,,stops to exist''.
In a mmorpg, there are plenty of other people, you cant just mod the game and do what you want, since there is competition involved, and im not just talking about pvp here.
Also, the ingame world continues to exist after you close the game, there are still thousands of people who want to spend their time in the game, even if you personally dont want to,and since the whole world is shared between the players, they have to make a compromise, they cant just let everyone do what he wants the same way they can in a singleplayer game.
Also, keep in mind that, since its a mmorpg,it encourages social interaction.
And part of the social interaction is(since we are humans, afterall),the need to,,show off''.
This doesnt make anyone a bad person, its natural...it varies from person to person, but just like some people like to impress with a nice car or cool clothes, there are people who want to do that in a game via titles,a well decorated house,or mounts/costumes that not a lot of people have.
If it would be too easy and fun to get those exclusive things, everyone would have them and people could no longer show off...its like a trophy that they carry(again, not all of them, but a lot of players think that way).
In a singleplayer game ofcourse, this doesnt happen, since there simply isnt anyone who you can impress+people who prefer singleplayer games in general, seem to care less about such things.
You may not see those as,,achievements''that hold any value, but for some people,it defiantly has value, and since youre not playing alone, but in a big world with many other people, their oppinion matters too.

But well,he blocked me,so i guess i write this for other people in this thread, who think the same way as the op,and tend to compare singleplayer games with mmorpg,s.
This just doesnt work.
A mmorpg like eso needs to have something to offer to casuals but also to hardcore gamers who want to no-life a game.
No matter what you think about the nolifers, they have the same right to play the game as you,and the nature of mmoRPG,s is that you get rewarded for your time spent in the game.
In the past, before everything became casual friendly, the hardcore type was more common, today, people often falsely look down on them for being,,tryhards''.
If someone prefers to play by himself, get a lot of freedom and play the game when and how he wants, without dissadvantages and without having to worry that other players,,outrun''him....he has to play singleplayer games,or learn how to adapt to this genre.

For me,metin 2 is the prime example for tedium and grind^^

It's still your own personal decision what to do or not. I mean, theres so much ads and promotion everywhere, like in TV, for stupid products I don't want to buy. But I don't cry about them wanting me to buy it. I simply don't do it and thats it.
When you walk a market and a seller asks you to buy his fruits which you don't want to, you simply say "No, thank you". You don't jump into his face. Same with free samples.
So now they are offering some free daily rewards for logging in - simply avoid it if you don't like it. Or take some of them. Or all. Whatever.
They are offering a free mount if you do some "pointless busywork". It's up to you to take it. There is no disadvantage in not taking it. Simply DO YOUR THING.
Others may like doing such "pointless busywork". Let them do theirs.
The game is open enough to allow different kinds of how to play it. Omit what you don't like. But don't complain about it if it's just a free goodie on top of the game. :vote_no:
Why can't you accept that there are some game mechanics which you don't like, as long as you can simply avoid them. There are other players who like those but avoid other things in the game. Tolerate diversity. Don't tell others how to play or whats "wrong" with the game as long as it doesn't influence the gameplay itself in a relevant way. If it's "wrong" for you leave it be and stand above that.
I can accept you opinion about that. But I don't like the way you are complaining about it - how it "ruins the game" etc. Bullsh*t.

I feel exactly the same way! At first the game was awesome, I was discovering new stuff, learning about elder scrolls lore, plus the voice acting. It was very immersive and amazing but more I played more tedious it felt and after dumping 400 hours or so into it and still being champ 380+-, which is not even max level I felt like I am not getting anywhere. Now if I play it, it feels like jumping into cold water. I am totally overhelmed, I dont know what to do in game. Where to start, what to do. :( Plus it is super boring and grindy. Man if this game would be singleplayer, like elderscrolls six, with little better quests, some companion system, I would sunk my life into it. But I just cannot get true grindy part in this mmo.

Well I cannot quite avoid to be put out of immersion, when two orcs in wedding dresses rake my ass in cyrodiil and then dance on my corpse. :D I am not against microtransactions, but they should somehow find a way to regulate transsexual orcs.
