New player question - missable content?
Hi everyone

I recently bought ESO: Elsweyr Collector's Edition and am about to start playing the game.
I'm quite the OCD completionist (already set up a spreadsheet for the game and all that), but just had a couple questions before I get started.

- Am I correct in understanding that no content is 'missable', except if it's part of the tutorial area? So basically, any collectibles or quests can be grabbed at any time because all areas in the game are accessible at all times (except for tutorial areas)?
- My tutorial starts in Elsweyr because this is the edition I bought. In the tutorial area (Star Haven Adeptorium, I think), Is there any content, such as Lorebooks, regular books, Skyshards or even quests, that I need to grab before I leave the area?

Thanks!

There may be people who definitively know the answer to this but pending that I can tell you that all areas you have bought access to are always open to you.

The only thing you may need to be aware of is that if you start something on the free weekends and you don't have access to the dlc's outside of that for some reason, you'd better get everything done as you won't get access until the next free weekend.

Other than that you can zig and zag as much as you want.

If somebody knows of particular instances where this doesn't hold true, I'd like to know that for myself.

Your starting point isn't super important, but I would recommend starting in your home area. Home meaning your alliance area. This will help you along the way with lore and why certain things are esoteric to ESO. I would also recommend downloading Minion, a third-party add-on manager for TESO, to help with things like lore books and skyshards. The add-on services they provide are top-tier to enhance gameplay.

Good luck, and have fun!

Mind, that you get no choice of your starting location. You always start in the tutorial of the latest chapter you own (Morrowind-Summerset-Elsweyr).

Only after the tutorial are you free to explore Tamriel.

As for the Minion, I wholeheartedly agree, it is an amazing tool.
yea man get minion and u can throw away the spreadsheet.... all the add ons and everything is top notch. :Imperial:

Hey guys - thanks for the minion tip!
I tried it but even though minion doesn't say the addons need updating, they game says they're out of date?

Yes, that's normal. There should be a check box that says "allow out of date addons" or something similar. Don't be afraid to tick it.

The only "missable" stuff might be timed events like crown store stuff or holiday events.

If you are just starting, the game will probably start you off in the newest DLC area. Just leave that area, via boat/shrine, and go to mainland Tarmriel. Once you land, an npc will approach you. Go through the dialogue and you'll get a few quests added to your journal. This is pretty much how the game is meant to be played.

One thing you should keep in mind is that the game is now "one tamriel" meaning that everything scales to your level. The game used to have fixed level ranges to each area which had more or less a linear path to follow. If you complete the areas out of the original order, the story will be disjointed and hard to follow in some spots.

That guide will explain what order to follow.

Theres really only one thing that is truly missable in the game, and that is the tutorial questline. If you decide to skip it, you cant ever go back to complete it, and I believe as a result the skill point you get from doing it is also lost.

Beyond that, yes there are some instanced areas that are part of quest lines that you won't be able to return to, however, there is nothing in them that you could miss really. Some of them just happened to be convenient for farming certain things.

The base game main quest of one of the factions second area does have an area that I believe you cannot return to, however at worst you miss out on an achievement, currently installing the game so I am sorry I can't give more details

Hmm so even though I'm starting in Elsweyr you're saying I shouldn't play that storyline and go somewhere else straight after the tutorial?

I would recommend this as well. Elsweyr takes place a while after the main game so to understand the full story it's best to start in the starting area of your alliance. This is Vulkhal Guard for Aldmeri Dominion, Daggerfall for Daggerfall Covenant and Davon's Watch for Ebonheart Pact. When you arrive in these places you should automatically get a quest and an npc should appear. These places can easily be reached via wayshrine.

The story order is mainly Main game > Imperial City > Orsinium > Morrowind > Clockwork City > Summerset > Wrathstone (dungeon dlc heavily related to Elsweyr I think) > Elsweyr > Dragonhold (with the dungeon dlc Scalebreaker i think somewhere around Elsweyr), not mentioning any of the dungeon dlc as they're mostly just separate stories and Thieves Guild, Dark Brotherhood and Murkmire not really fitting in any specific point, except for Dark Brotherhood before Morrowind.

Sorry for long comment, might have gotten a few things wrong. XD

No worries about the long comment - helpful to have all that info!
I'm thinking I might still want to focus on the zone I'm starting in for now, to get my head around the game.

Can I do the Main Story at any time (the Hooded Figure and Coldharbour quests) or will I be unable to do it if I complete Northern Elsweyr chapter first?

Yes. You're going to want to follow that guide. In order to do that, you need to go to mainland Tamriel. Mainland Tamriel is where the base game content is. Start there and progress until you eventually reach the later chapters like Morrowind, Summerset, Elsweyr, etc.

In the end, play the game how you want, but if you do stuff out of order, the story will be all jumbled up.
