Unfortunately you do have to free up 80GB even after having installed the game, otherwise the installer won't continue. This is a long-standing issue with the game's Steam installer. It does not actually _use_ those additional 80 GB, so if you have some other storage device available, you can temporatily move files away from your main drive, and put them back after the installation has finished.

Alternatively, you could buy the game from Zenimax. The download from their own website is smaller (less than 60 GB I heard) and doesn't require additional free space during the installation. You can try getting a refund for the Steam game, even though you're probably past the 2-hour threshold. Arguably the product is not "sold as described" - the product page on Steam says that you need 85 GB free space (which you have), but actually requires around 170 GB to be installed.
Was going to do that if it doesnt work this time either and i also wanted to use the zenimax installer but i it didnt let me download it (even tho i linked accounts) and their customer support (if you can even call it that) suxs ass "You have a Problem? How about this solution? No?Well sucks to be you."
Yeah unfortunately their "Customer Service" is the worse, I have looked for help from them before, it feels like an eternity before they actually get back to you (-w-)" Good luck.

From what I understand, you're trying to download/install the game in the hope that you won't get the "free an additionali 80GB" roadblock this time. I don't think this will work. As far as I know, this is a fundamental problem with the Steam version of the game, and everyone who installs it through Steam needs to have about 170 GB free space. But it won't do any harm to try it anyway, of course.

You can only use the Zenimax downloader/launcher if you bought the game from Zenimax. That's why I suggested trying to get a refund from Steam; you could then re-buy the game from Zenimax, where the installation needs less free space.
If it were an option I'd slap or possibly kick the developers asses. :csgogun::trazz: improvise think of what you should do to get the next generation of red vs blue video gaming would really need in this life we thrive to survive, this is just a boneheaded obsticle that needs to be "adjusted" and altered to the masses liking of other MMO's soon to come our way. Therr's a way to shorten the file but you can't unless full installation, you can get rid of the language files they take up a lot of space I think 5-10GB depending on how many language files you choose to displace from the directory and into your recycle bin.

It worked, i dont know why but i just downloaded it started the launcher and i didnt have the problem anymore.
i honestly couldnt care less why because i can play my fav mmo again HAHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHHHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHHA:steamhappy:
ESO recently changed their recommend hard-drive requirements from 80GB to 85GB, but steam version must see about 170GB. Steam will never use the other 85GB, it just thinks it does.

Wow :)

This is weird, and I don't have an explanation for it, but I'm happy to have been wrong, because that means you can install the game. :)

Just to be sure (because this might be interesting information for others who have this problem), what were the exact steps that you took? Is the following list correct?

1. Download ESO from Steam
2. The ESO installer requests 80 GB additonal space
3. Cancel the installation
4. Uninstall the game through Steam
5. Try to download and install ESO again
6. Miraculously, the installer does not request the additional 80GB of space any more

Correct?
