usefull performance tweaks
does someone know how i can improve the performance in this mess of a game?

i7 8700k @4,7Ghz
GTX 1080Ti
16GB RAM etc.

i mean i have around 50 fps in cities with medium settings are you kidding me?

most of the bad performance issues r serversided and bc of bad netcode, however u didnt list an ssd? it can help with loading screens which r a big part or loading screens online

i5 6600k, OC@ 4.5, GTX 1060 6gb, 16gb ram and im hovering around 100fps consistantly. Most every setting on high except shadows and water reflection at 1080 res. What resolution you running at?

Just Full HD. But i honestly doubt, that you have 100FPS consistantly.

They aren't lying.

i7 8086K @ 4.0GHz (5.0 boost on all cores, out of the box)
EVGA GTX1080 Ti FTW3
16GB G.Skill DDR4 memory @ 3200MHz (XMP 2.0)

I stay around 100 FPS constantly, 2k @ 120Hz, however..

I've noticed that, after long periods of time, and tabbing in/out of the game, my performance will drop. As stated before, the game isn't necessarily as optimized as it could be (I think it still uses a DX9 API.. not sure, but gonna look that up now..), so this is part of it. I believe it suffers from a teensy memory leak, as it has since release. (This is something I've noticed since the game came out.)

As for performance-related settings, the big offenders are:

1. Resolution - If you can stand lowering it, doing so will be the biggest gain.
2. Draw Distance - More you can see == more has to be rendered == more work the CPU/GPU have to do and also apply every other setting to.
3. Anti-aliasing - Anything above 2x is a waste of resources with next to no improvement.
4. Shadows - I hate to suggest disabling them, because they do add quite a bit to the immersion, but.. shadows are still terribly emulated and chew up quite a bit of performance; especially in crowded areas.

With specs similar to mine, you should be seeing similar performance most of the time.

Hardware-related things I'd check:

1. Memory - what speed is it running at currently? Do you have an XMP profile enabled? Check in the BIOS if you aren't sure. Mine is like.. 2800MHz? by default, but XMP 2.0 takes it to 3200MHz safely.

2. Temps - You're not overheating at all, are you? Hardware now will throttle itself (CPU specifically) if it starts reaching anything near the TJ Max.

The only thing vastly different between our setups is that I do play off of an NVMe PCI-e SSD. (Samsung EVO 970)

So that may also be part of it.

i will give it a try.

1. 3000Mhz with XMP

2. Temps are no problem at all *CPU and GPU around 60 degrees

Yeah i might install it on my SSD and see from there how it goes.

SSD will only help with loading screen times. It shouldn't have any measurable effect on FPS. ESO is a CPU-bound game, and tends to allocate work to one core. If your CPU is already tasked with background processes, your ingame FPS is going to suffer. Make sure that you're not running anything in the background when you play.

Based on your given specs, you shouldn't have any issue achieving 80-100 FPS in most cities with the highest settings (at 1080p). FPS is not a server-side issue, so if you're seeing lower FPS than expected, it's an issue on your end.

I disable water reflections and then in usersettings.txt I disable high res shadows. Might as well try it out if you already haven't.

I dont know. Every over game runs fine.

For a full detail guide on most ini tweaks to improve FPS and improve texture quality with minimum loss in quality. I suggest starting with the ini tweaks first then going more into detail if you want to. Game is more CPU intensive than GPU. If you are in a town looking a 30+ people on screen, then it is understandable for performance to drop that low. Dated engine can only do so much with newer end hardware. Also good luck with Zergs in PVP lol, performance is abysmal

For capping your game's FPS to your monitor's native refresh rate. I highly suggest doing this as well, just note you might experience screen tearing. Depends on what monitor you use or other factors.

Hi, i struggeled around with it yesterday... Go to your documents, find elderscrolls online, in that folder is somewhere live folder where are addons and other stuff. U find there usesettings, turn high detailed shadows from 1 to 0. Your fps will be better and your game runs smoother. Shodws can be ultra ingame. What it does, it changes shadows more smooth and not that sharp, those sharp shadows take down your performace. I hope it helps. Other stuff what u find at google, i do not reccomend, i tested almost everything and this is only thing what u can change in that seting file. If this does not help, then u must buy better pc :D Ofc, check that if u have vsync off.
