Summerset Villa merely unlocked for purchase or do we get to own it outright?
By purchasing the new DLC and logging in prior to Oct 7th, we are to get three gifts, and one of them is the 'unlocking' of an amazing villa. But in my mind, unlocking means you've met the achievement requirements, but you still have to then purchase the home. For instance, Daggerfall Manner must be unlocked by completeing a Daggerfall-centric achievement, but then you still need to pay out the ass for it.

I'm asking because complete ownership of the villa seems almost too good to be true, and the marketing material is using the term "unlock', not "own".

- When will we receive our rewards?

All owners of The Elder Scrolls Online: Summerset who have logged into the game by October 7 shall receive their free rewards by Wednesday, October 10.

Yes, but the question is, is the villa merely unlocked so that we can purchase it, or is the reward that we get to OWN it without having to purchase it? Because it doesn't say 'own' the villa as a reward, it says the achievement is automatically earned, allowing for the villa to "unlock".

Of course they will give the villa (and the horse and pet...)

Unlocking only an achievment (what for ???...) would be the most worthless gift ever and would backfire them hard

Dont feel the gift is too good to be true...
They sold a lot of Summerset because of this, so, in the end, many people paid their 'free' house

I just went ahead and bought it, thank you for the feedback.

Another thing people aren't mentioning as well is that people started calling them out for EVERYTHING cool being in the crown store. In my opinion every chapter should come with atleast a minimum of one large house in the area of the dlc included in the purchase then you can put some in the crown store. I think people complaining about this kind of stuff (rightfully so ) has finally started to get to them in a way it hadn't before as you can see now we have daily login rewards that give us stuff from the store and even crates. There are other games with more generous business models guild wars 2 comes to mind specifically if eso wants to compete they need to loosen their grip a bit .

Don't worry, they have thought it through and since the villa comes unfurnished, they can expect some nice profit from the Alinor furniture bundles, conveniently coming to Crown Store in a few days.

I like their plan and I may actually buy some furniture, depending on the cost.

It did seem too good to be true.

Maybe they decided selling an expensive house to people would earn less money than selling copies of the expansion to those who then want the house along with pet and mount collectors. Then there's the buzz it generated on the news sites as well. And as mentioned, they can sell housing decorations to the new owners.

And lastly, it's free for those who logged in and own the expansion. But those that don't... well it wouldn't be implausable that it'd end up for sale anyway for all those who weren't here in our time of fortune.

Great stuff, thanks for the responses. I purchased it last last night and it's easily my favorite zone now, with or without the villa.

That said, can you imagine the uproar if it turns out the villa is merely unlocked via the 'gift of achievement', and one still has to shell out 15k crowns for it?

Now you're in Summerset you can see the villa for yourself. You can get to the location nearby after doing the main quest for a bit.

It won't.

I think you got confused by the term "Unlocking."

It was initially used because there were multi-tiered rewards that were unlocked at certain points; 33% 66% and then 100%.

Once "unlocked" we will receive that reward. In due course.

I can still barely believe players who have summerset are eligible for those rewards simply by logging into eso before the 7th

To be honest it's a way to sell the expansion.

Remember, the expansion has been out some time already and they're looking to get some new adopters. What better way than with a "free" Pet, Mount and Mansion!

This was a great PR stunt by ZoE that was featured on a lot of websites. It even featured on Forbes. https://www.forbes.com/sites/kevinmurnane/2018/09/19/a-new-elder-scrolls-online-event-with-awesome-rewards-starts-tomorrow/#15e2f17c6fe4

They got what they wanted: More Summerset sales. That's fine by me, especially when they had it on 33% sale too.
