item level to maximize decon EXP
So, say my lvl 27 CP 0 toon with lvl 9 metalworking and lvl 42 blacksmithing overall tries to decon a lvl 50 CP 150 item. I won't get full exp right? Do I have to wait until my character level is CP150, or just until BS is 50, or until Metalworking is 10?

Char level vs craft skill level vs craft level.... I'm confused!

I don't think it works that way, but it was a long time ago. Just try to decon something higher level than you and see what happens. I thought we could decon anything. My first instinct is you are going to get a bunch of xp for deconning something much higher than you if you can decon it that is. I was deconning 160cp jewelry when jewelry level was at 1 and skill level was 1.

I did try, I got a measly 700ish exp, while a lvl 27 weapon got me over 1000. Does that mean my crafter has to be within a range of the item level? Like should I wait until I hit BS 45? Metalworking 10? If I have to wait until CP150 I will be here forever!

I suggest you decon everything you find and don't think about it too much. Obviously, blue and purple items will give a lot more xp as will the intricates. What you should do is go to cold harbour town. There are all kinds of items just lying around and there is no stealing or guards. Everthing is right next to the crafting stations. After you do everything, wayshrine out to a few zones and come back and most of it will have respawned. You should also steal a bunch of stuff and decon it all in every town when u visit. Mage guilds are good for staves. Fighters guilds have lots of metal items.

Deconstructing items will make that skill rise up, the higher the level of item results in higher xp.

The two tried and true ways to level these skills are- decon most of what gets dropped and don't worry about it (the slow way), or- buy a huge amount of CP 160 intricate gear from guild traders and decon it all (the fast way). Deconning lower level gear gives diminishing returns, so deconning CP 160 stuff is usually easiest.

OK so I ran a little experiment.

My stats: Character 27, Clothing 43, Tailoring 9, CP 0
deco CP150 gloves: got 770 exp
deco green lvl 27 gloves: got 1780 exp

So CP150 gear for deco seems less effective at my char/craft/skill/CP level...

Where is the tipping point for me to get full exp credit at deco? when my character level or my craft level or my skill level or my CP level matches?

You said decon CP 150, then decon green lvl 27.
Green stuff is usually going to give more than white stuff. It probably doesn't have anything to do with the level thing.
