Cost of Crowns in Dollars
New player, here. After burning through several Crown Store-purchased Soul Gems in order to give myself another chance to defeat a boss, I wondered how much it was costing me each time, since I bought them with real money. Turns out they are about 3 for a dollar. In case you are interested, here are some crown costs. Buying in higher quantities does not provide a noticeable discount.

Crowns (in the qty I bought) currently cost $39.99 for 5500, or $0.00727 each
So just multiply .00727 by the number of crowns something costs to get the cost in dollars.

Example

200 crowns = $1.45
400 crowns = $2.90
500 crowns = $3.63
600 crowns = $4.36 cheapest staple homes available for this
1000 crowns = $7.27 basic extra storage chests cost this much
1500 crown = $10.81
2000 crowns = $14.50 some costumes & some staple homes are around this much
2500 crowns = $18.18
3000 crowns = $21.81
3500 crowns = $25.45 classic homes start around here
4000 crowns = $29.08
4500 crowns = $32.72
5000 crowns = $36.35
5500 crowns = $39.99
10,000 crowns = $72.70
12,000 crowns = $87.24 Some of the notable houses cost this much - unfurnished.
13,000 crowns = $94.51 for most expensive house I could find, unfurnished.
16,300 crowns = $118.50 for the above house, furnished

I'm sure there's an enuthusiast or two out there who have done all sorts of math on this game long ago and someone is welcome to provide a link to it. But here are just some samples in case someone looks for that here.

Never, ever, use real money to buy soul gems. You get buried in the things if you just play the game normally. Just completing your daily enchanter writ gets you a steady supply. Even if, for some reason, you're running short of them, you can steal or buy as many as you want in-game.

Note that you don't need a soul gem for resurrection if the boss has its own chamber/map. In that case, "resurrect at wayshrine" will simply start you at the beginning of the boss map.

And if the boss isn't in a solo area, the easiest and cheapest way to get through a fight you weren't ready for, is to just wait until another player comes along, and then tackle the boss together.

Sorry to hear about that op. Be aware that there is nothing in the crown store that can't be found or earned or somehow replicated in the game itself. Most crown stuff is cosmetic and the potions and boosts are not worth the cost. Soul gems are everywhere. Also stacks of 200 gets you 6k from the npc merchant. There is a passive in the soul gem world skill line that automatically fills soul gems for 10% of your kills.

dude don't buy soul gems seriously they drop from any named boss usually i have thousdands of them literally.. You'll end up getting a ton of them soon, yeah the food and stuff in the crown store will never be better then something that youll be able to make in end game crafting if the devs keep their word(they have since the crown store released) The only things you cant get from in game playing is the cool mounts and outfits and stuff. You can however sub to the game and get 1500 crowns a month with your sub which comes with a bunch of benefits as well like all the dlc (excluding chapters e.g morrwind and summerset) the crafting bag (which is well worth the sub purchase), xp and inspiration gain and a few others. My opinion would be to sub to the game if you haven't already .
