two handed or shield n thingey?
i'm a redguard dragonknight. does specializing in one of these things have a advantage for me?
or should i roll with whatever i want?

also, what's the point of the shield. it doesn't really block anything it seems? or is that just me?

edit, i put my points in stamina.

Once you reach higher levels you probably want to pick a role.
Sword and shield for tank
Two handed/dual wield and bow for dd (damage dealer)
USUALLY, in dungeons, trials, people use dual wield/bow, and in PvP people use two handed, but do what you want. Redguards are the best race for stamina dps so if you want, you can go stamina dragonknight dps build.

do you know what precisely you can do with the shield? how is it used? why use it for a tank? (i played for two days now so not a lot of experience) ;)

Well, tanks are the guys who take all the damage. They have about 35k health usually, run heavy armor and use sword and shield, the shield, together with the sword and shield passives, it's the thing that absorbs most damage, therefore they use it. You have to use right click to put the shield up.

does the shield absorb damage too if you don't right click?
737 Jun 13, 2018 @ 10:10am
No, you gotta keep it up, also, each hit the shield takes, uses your stamina, so make sure you have balanced stats. Something like 35k health, 21k magicka, 23k stamina.
Make sure you have more stamina than magicka, to block better.( And for some other stuff, but it's not yet for you to worry about) Now these stats are for a higher level tank. You're new to the game so I don't know how your stats will look. If you want to tank, just make sure to invest on heavy armor, have more health than magicka and stamina, and more stamina than magicka. Redguard is good for stamina.
If you want to be a dps, redguard is the best for stamina, make sure to have more stamina than health and magicka. For example, a stamina build would look something like this:
16k health (16k is the minimum required) 36k stamina, 9k magicka, something like that. As you level up more and more and get better gear, your stamina will increase by a lot. On a dps you invest on medium armor primarely.

The shield provides some defence, but it greatly enhances the block. The skill line also provides a taunt, ultimate generation, stun etc. All things great for tanks.

Yes, as Sajah said, having the shield up helps block A LOT more damage. For the skills you use, if you want to tank, the most important in a tank are the taunts. Taunts keep the enemy attacking you, and not your team. The taunt you'll be using the most is the FIRST skill under the sword and shield skill line, it's called "Puncture", you can later morph this skill to make it more powerfull. Other skills you might wanna be using are "Low slash", which is the second skill on the sword and shield skill line, "Defensive posture" (if you want) "Fiery Grip", under the ardent flame skill line, to pull enemies to you and your team, "Spiked Armor" under the draconic power skill line, "Dark Talons" under the same skill line, (use this to keep enemies in place after using Fiery Grip)
"Dragon Blood" under the same skill line, which gives you a nice heal and health recovery, "Obsidian Shield" under the earthen heart skill line, for a nice shield. These are the dragonknight skills used for tanking, usually. There are more skills to use, under other skill lines, but it's best for you to look up a guide of how to tank at lower levels.
Luckly for you, dragonknights are the best tanks in the game. So if you want to follow that path you have the best class for it.

EDIT: All the names I used (skill names) are the BASE names for the skills. These later have morphs, that you can choose from, to make them more powerful.
EDIT2: Make sure you also level up the passive skills (these are below the active skills) Those help you and your team A LOT. Worry about these when you feel comfortable, you don't need to upgrade them right away, but they will be vital if you want to be a better tank.
EDIT3 Just realized I didn't tell you any of the ultimates. "Shield Wall" on the sword and shield skill line is a good one, "Dragonknight Standard" on he ardent flame skill line is also good, "Magma Armor" on the earthen heart is a good one as well. "
"War Horn" is AMAZING, it's under the "Assault" skill line (THIS requires you to PvP to aquire. If you don't want to PvP, nevermind). These are some of the ultimates DK tanks use.

any tips for that?

For a dd, redguard is very good and a stamina dragonknight is also good.
For this you'll be using Dual Wield and bow. OR Two handed or bow.
But don't let this be your rule. You can do whatever you want. If you want to use Dual Wield/ Two handed, go for it. You can look up a bunch of guides online for dd builds.
You COULD have a magicka dd, which means you'll be using more spells than weapons. The Redguard is not the best for a magicka build, but again, if you just want to quest, explore the game, you can do what you want. If you want to be a redguard magicka user, so be it.
For a dd you'll use the same skill lines, just not the same skills. I personally have NOT played a stamina dragonknight so I can't help you much here. You'll have to ask someone online or look up a guide for it. Some of the skills will be the same for every dd, for example "Volley" under the bow skill line, "Posion Arrow" under the same skill line, "Caltrops" under the Assault skill line, this ALSO requires PvP to aquire, so if you don't want to, it's fine. "Trap Beast" under the Fighters Guild skill line, "Dawnbreaker" under the same skill line, for the ultimate.
If you do NOT have fighters and mages guild aquired, go to your main city, and look up in your map where they are, go there and get these skill lines. They help you a lot no matter what role you'll play.

if you go for a stamina build, do people not use their magica at all or do people still use one or two magica abilities?
737 Jun 13, 2018 @ 10:56am
They use magicka, yes, but only a couple skills use magicka, so it's ok to have low magicka. I have about 9k magicka on my stamina sorcerer dd. I only use it for a couple of skills so it's fine. What you want is about 16k health, more is fine, obviously, and a good amount of stamina, again, just for exploring and doing quests, you don't need a whole lot, maybe 25k will do, don't know.
Also keep a look out for weapon damage, in your character menu, in your stats, there's spell damage, spell critical, weapon damage, weapon critical.
Now, I'm not a lot into the dd thing. For my level, and end game content, usually people go with 3.5k weapon damage. I have about 4k weapon damage, and then some skills buff it. Dragonknights for example have passives that allow you to have major and minor brutallity, increasing your weapon damage. I would not worry about this so much, just worry about stamina health and magicka for now, and once you go deeper, try to get better quality weapons to increase weapon damage and critical.

EDIT: Food helps A LOT. I don't remember exactly how it works at lower levels, but if you encounter food or drinks that boost stats, use them. You can even buy from merchants, like chefs. Some of these increase stamina, other health, other magicka.
And then higher level foods can increase up to 3 stats.
