When you go to certain cities on the mainland, a hooded figure will offer you quest. During that quest, you will end up in the prison in Coldharbour that you remember, and you will play through the old tutorial, just without the tutorial messages. After that, the game's main story arc is ope to you, as if you had started the game this way.
I just the other day made my Warden after having purchased Morrowind and got introduced to the tutorial for Morrowind, which involved Dark Elf slavers, a Morag Tong assassin, and me being kinda yucked out by how incredibly detailed and gross looking some of the fungus and plants look on Vvardenfell.
