that's what i'm following
All classes can be;
Stamina-based damage dealers
Magicka-based damage dealers
Tanks
and Healers.
It's the same with weapons, though you usually pick weapons based on playstyle (So tanks use sword and shield, maybe 2handed weapons for things you do by yourself. Magicka damage dealers use staves, etc)
All classes can do certain roles better than others but that doesn't mean you have to do them
e.g.: Dragonknights make the best tanks, Templars make the best healers.
I think Wardens are basically a jack-of-all-trades (although they aren't the best at anything specific)
stamina melee dps : dw / bow or 2h / bow (2H is more pvp, dw more pve).
stamina ranged dps : bow / bow
magicka dps : fire staff / lightning staff.
magicka dps (magic class spells variant) : lightning staff / dw or 2H (for passives and/or mementum). DK magicka dps will do fire / dw or 2H instead.
Healer : resto staff / lightning staff.
stamina tank : weapon and shield / weapon and shield.
magicka tank : weapon and shield / ice staff.
For pvp, you can swap the second weapon for weapon and shield or resto staff or ice staff for more defence for dps and healers, giving you :
Stamina melee dps : dw / shield or 2H / shield.
Ranged ranged dps : bow / shield.
magicka dps : destro staff / shield or destro staff / resto staff or destro staff / ice staff
magicka dps variant : dw or 2h / shield or ice staff.
healer : resto staff / ice staf or shield.
The winter line has some passives, I believe, that boosts frost damage. Comdine that with an ice staff, or at least force pulse to take advantage ot that.
That's the only thing that comes to mind. And if you're stam, it doesn't matter at all.
