Enchantment quality [SOLVED with a mod]
Is there any way to see the quality - Normal/Fine/Superior/Epic - of an enchantment after it's been applied? There have been times when I thought gear that I looted might have a lesser quality enchantment and benefit from a high quality one I made myself, but I don't know how to be sure.

When you apply a glyph, only the head, chest, legs and shield get 100% of what it states on the glyph. The rest of anything you apply a glyph to only gets 40% of what the glyph says on it. That may be why you see the difference.

I've observed this. That isn't my question. I'd like to be able to see the quality of the original enchantment on (looted) gear so I can know whether I have a chance to improve the effect by replacing the enchantment with a higher quality one I can make. The game doesn't seem to expose that information... or does it? It's not shown in my gear tooltips.

You need an addon for that. I don't remember the name but it's one of those that add extra info on the item tooltips.

That said, numbers are normalized, they are picked from a table, like if you pick a chest, and look at the glyph enchant it can't be anymore that 4 possibilities at most.
There is a wiki (fextralife) that has the tables for chests (you need to calculate the reduction for belts etc.). Like if you have a stamina glyph on a chest that says 480, it's a blue glyph that ranges from cp 10 to 100. 480 is always blue, and it's stay for 4 power levels.
Added to that, you know that you can at most loot a glyph that is of you level, even on an item. So if the gear is cp 40 and you see 480, then it's most likely a blue greater glyph (rera rune, which is the cp30-50 range).

Unless you looted it from a vet dungeon and it came a legendary item, you can benefit from adding a Kuta level enchant to just about everything. Not saying you should, but i got a few hundred of the things and slap em on anything I use like Frank's Red Hot on anything fried..

That will be one more addon I want, at least in the short term for another few months. I already have at least one addon that augments tooltip information.

If you're right that a mod for this exists, then that means that indeed the game retains that quality detail and exposes it to mods through the API. I've already been exposed to bits of the API through customizing filters for the AutoCategory mod. This will be one more addon I want, at least in the short term for another few months. I already have at least one addon that augments tooltip information.

Also,I didn't think of it, but it doesn't really matter. Since you don't want to craft stuff while leveling. Craft is mostly an endgame feature because of the scaling penalty (you stuff gets penalties every 2 levels difference, 10 if champion). So until you hitthe scaling cap (cp160), just equip what you loot and rush, it's not like you'll miss anything because with the scaling the first area of the game will always be as hard as the last level wise.

edit : the addon is enchanted quality, it colors the enchantment depending on the rarity of the glyph.
And you don't need to read the API for that. As I said, this is a normalized table, number are uniques and not random, like if you see 772 on a chest with a HP glyph, that's purple cp150 glyph, 772 is only for that rarity and that level in the glyph table. There is no formula, no external number, it's a plain 2 dimentional table.

I've been crafting and enchanting already since perhaps level 20, to fill in gaps in the gear that I loot. I've been working very hard to keep my crafting ability in line with my level, and I've been succeeding. The laggard was enchanting, but I finally achieved rank 4(?) and can make epic quality enchants. I can outdo the stock enchants on most all of the gear I loot now, but I save it for the gap-filling ear and weapons I have to make. Making gear and enchantments also advances the crafting further. I don't overdo the quality because I know, as you said, that I'll outgrow all of it every couple days. If I have an excess in a material then I splurge a little.

The game is truly random about gear loot: I've been wearing heavy armor but most of the gear I loot is light and medium. Bows are really hard to find, what with being equal chance drop with all the other weapons.

The thing is, when you get cp 160, deconstruction cp160 glyphs you loot (or buy) will skyrocket the xp for the skill. It's the same for all other equipment crafts. It's easier to go from 1 to 50 when you're cp 160 than trying to craft while leveling. the only skills where you have to craft while leveling are cooking and alchemy, because there is no deconstruction, only recipes (alchemy is easy though, cooking you need to buy some recipes if you wanna go fast).

By the way, you want to make a crafter, be sure to level all the craft skills on the same char and for the equipment skills, do reseaches now pick the reseach passives asap. Researching is about a year and a half of wait thanks to 30 days cooldowns for the highest tiers...

None of that matters to me: this is the way I enjoy playing the game. It's not for everyone, especially without a Plus subscription and the perks that go with that. I just hit character level 40 and all three of the gear and weapon crafting skills are past level 26, with enchanting lagging at 20. I've been ignoring alchemy and provisioning simply because I don't have enough storage to handle the raw materials for ALL of them at once.

Already well on my way with the trait research, too! I'm favoring now the traits I expect I'll most want (with AutoResearch configured to that end). I have 3 traits on average now for each gear and weapon type, some up to five; 114 traits total researched so far, according to TraitBuddy. I think I started playing the game about mid-January? I have yet to craft a full set of gear at any level, but I can easily fill in the loot gaps. I get very nervous if my gear levels lag more than two levels behind my character level, and the heavy armor loot drop RNG has not been kind to me. (Eventually I'll equip and train the other types.)

Gotta go, I've accumulated 10 treasure maps and gotta reclaim the bag space....

I found the addon that @Sajah mentioned, and it's exactly what I wanted:
