I wound up selling the ones I had. As far as I can tell, that's what is done with them, other than perhaps counting toward some weird achievement that I don't care about.
If you have the DLC for thieves guild you can also use perks to raise how much you can fence/launder per day.
All treasure should have value and be sellable,if not its either a quest item or a collectible you turn into the Hews Bane Hideout aka HQ.As I'm not aware of any treasure that has no value unless it's a quest item.
For the collectible you should be able go to Hews Ban HQ and you place it in a display in the meeting room.
If you gather all 16 of them, you get an Achievement, the "Master Thief" title and the Coin of Illusory Riches Memento
There may be other quest that have collectibles but the only one I have came across is the Hews Bane one.
