You can buy the game on steam and then buy cheaper keys for non steam version (use key on TESO site) aaaand it will work :D

are you saying that it doesnt work by just activating the key on steam?
sounds really odd since it should work the same as buying the dlc on steam

Nope, the keys you get outside of Steam can only be redeemed on the ESO website. However, as long as you own some version of the game on Steam and your ESO account is linked to Steam, any keys you redeem on the ESO website will have their content accessible through the Steam launcher. That includes crowns, DLC/Chapters,etc.

that sounds very odd and unusual, are you really certain of this ?

I am 100% sure of this. I bought TESO Tamriel Unlimited on steam and then redeemed Morrowind DLC key on site (as it was WAY cheaper on 3rd party sites). It works 100% and you can rest assured of this.

For example Final Fantasy XIV devs restricted this. If you buy game on steam then you are unable to buy DLC via site and vice versa.

But it works with TESO. As long as you have your account linked to steam you can redeem keys via site (thus buy them for cheaper prices).

are you saying that theres a problem with unlocking content if its redeemed through steam or that you just think there might be because the devs of final fantasy works like that?

im just making sure that i dont redeem my keys the wrong way since i thought of buying the dlcs next week online, i just dont understand why there would be a problem with activating the game through stream since it should work the same way as purchasing it through steam by simply activating the key (either two options of either key redeeming or purchasing through steam)
both will activate content in your library, the same ones

No no! I think we missed each other a little bit.
Let us put things this way. Let's say that you bought TESO and linked your TESO account to steam and nowyou can play it via steam. You don't have to buy DLC keys on steam for them to work. You can buy them on 3rd party sites and redeem keys on TESO'S site. As long as your account is linked to steam it will be okay.

I see you are playing TESO right now. Make sure your account on site and steam are linked and then you can redeem keys on site. DLC will not appear "on steam" but you will have it on your account thus unlocking the content behind them :)!

But isn't it better to redeem it on Steam if my account is already synchronized between my steam client / library ?
I'm guessing there shouldn't be any difference between redeeming it in Steam or the website other than that it might not appear in my steam library that I've got the dlcs while I still do in-game from redeeming it on the website

I just don't understand why I should redeem it on the website instead of steam

Yes, I do this all the time and so do many of my friends.

The agreement between Zenimax and Steam was that Steam versions of the game can only be sold on Steam (no keys to third parties), but that content purchased from outside of Steam and redeemed on an ESO account can still be used on the Steam versions of the game, as long as the ESO and Steam accounts are linked.

So anything you redeem on your ESO account page will be accessible through the Steam launcher.

Because you can't redeem it on Steam - there are no Steam keys for ESO. All keys sold outside of Steam are generated by ZOS and follow a different format from Steam keys, so it has to be redeemed on your ESO account page. They'll still allow you access to the content in the same manner as if you bought the content on Steam, provided your Steam account and ESO account are linked.
