Have you any idea what you've just done to me?

Anyways, ESO and GW2 are both great in their own regard. I've played both, and they're really great, but they're still fundamentally different games.

One thing they share in common is horizontal progression, where there's a point that your gear's power doesn't make up much of a difference, and it's basically just a question of skill from there. One thing ESO has on GW2 in terms of gear tho are the sets which are really neat cuz it allows for some pretty diverse combinations.

I think it's mostly just down to which game world you connect with more. Personally I like both games.

They are defo both great games. I know this topic was necro'ed but honestly people asking which to get should alternate between both. Since they are both buy to play games there is no reason not to. Heck GW2 is free to play for the base game even.
Technically ESO is buy to play (because at least the base game can be played without anything else) but practically it is buy to play + subscription + buy dlcs, 3 times a year + buy chapter + pay for quality of life stuff, because ESO would be a really bad game without the crafting bag, only with base game zones and without extra inventory space or merchants, bankers, armory or deconstruction assistant.

Technically all free to play games are also free to play, but some have mechanics that make you whether want to pay or better leave instead of playing and ESO has some of them too, even not to such extreme degree like many free to play games.

But yeah, if you can / want to afford it, just try both. They are among the better / best MMOs available right now. I formyself dislike the "disney" / "happy bears" artstyle of guild wars and it seems to feel even more empty / meaningless than ESO somehow, while I like the more adult art style of ESO, even I like the more colorful newer zones more than the base game ones.

I mean, for eso you need only pay for the sub along with a one time purchase of the base game, no need to pay for DLCs. Maybe buy the chapters, but the DLCs are already included in the sub so ye

I don't always have ESO Plus. I generally get it when I'm a little more into the game than usual. Otherwise I play fine without it. If there is something I want in the crown store I'll get plus for the free crowns, then buy the rest of the crowns I need for the thing I want. I still think Plus is a good deal because it's the same price as just buying 1500 crowns, but you still get the crowns as well.
