what's so wrong with a Nord magicka sorcerer?
Theorycrafting is fun, and I'm failing to see why a Nord sorcerer is such a bad idea. :)

I went to an ESO build editor and threw random Light armor and Heavy armor onto a max level character (Level 50, CP160). I got resistances as follows:
LIGHT: 5488 spell resistance, 8083 physical resistance
HEAVY: 10888 spell resistance, 10888 physical resistance

So the +3960 physical and spell resistance that a Nord gets (a lot more than a Breton) is looking pretty good. It basically turns a set of Light armor into Heavy armor, while still getting the magicka-sorcerer benefits of Light armor. That takes basic armor from 8% resistance to 16% resistance (according to this build editor), while the High Elf gets just a 5% damage reduction but only during spellcasting.

Being more survivable while taking hits (and the Nord gets +1000 hp), the Nord also generates Ultima faster. That's a feature which is also useful to mages, not just physical characters. The Nord also gets +1500 stamina, just what the Dark Conversion skill needs for replenishing magicka.

You have to be alive in order to generate DPS, and this character creation combo looks appealing. Are my numbers wrong?

Dude race only matters if you're pushing the highest numbers. Literally anything else, you're fine.

Nothing is wrong, it's just sorcerer tends to be resource taxing, so some players prefer to build around more sustain by recommending Breton.

But you can do what you want and get away with it, by making other sacrifices for sustain, just not being the optimal endgame meta. It's really up to you.

Nord if actually BiS this patch for DPS since you can use both stam and magicka. Nords frost resist helps keep you unsared from all the warden ice snares and wall of elements. Also magicka sorc is really nice with the changes to shields w/ higher reistances. If you pair Bloodspawn with nord passive and BRP restro staff, you'll have massive survivability because your healing ward will be tanky af and heal hella hard.

If you don't meta, then don't bother with vet dungeons and such. You'll forever be a hindrance. A Nord mage? Cannot be. An Altmer tank? Absurd.

I was shamed out of having a paladin-like stamina Altmer. You want to have fun with the races and class combos? What is this? Elder Scrolls? You may not.

It depends on context.

From a pvp approach, a nord is a good idea even for a dps, because more defence is always better in pvp.

In pve, and actually vet trial pve. When you push in hard content, you actually learn that positioning is more important than defencive stats, what you want is push your dps as high as you can (so picking race that will enhance your damage, like high elf or breton) because you're not supposed to get killed (not stupidly anyway), if you have position, your tank and healers will keep you alive while you hard dps. That why you can afford to be in paper.

And in low pve areas, difficulty is not high enough to justify the little bonus any race offers.

Wrong, if you want to swap between main resource focus, obviously BiS is dunmer because of both extra mag/stam and damage.
