If I could bring one thing from Age or Conan, my previous, beloved MMORPG, to ESO, I would choose the hate management in group combat.
I'm glad you enjoy it. I really am. I wish I could.
But I cant. And doing a bit of research has revealed that I am far, far from the only person with these same complaints.
If you are going to make combat 80% or more of your game - and it is here, by far - then you need to actually make it a good, varied, satisfying combat system to use. And at this, the game fails miserably.
Like I said, weapons are weightless and their reach is fake. Hits dont even register. They have no impact. Ditto for magic. Combat feels dated and clunky and weightless and its very unsatisfying to play.
Can you suggest better examples I could check out?
Any game that isnt an MMO. Literally ANY game. FYI, "Good for/Best in an MMO" isnt an argument, its a cop out. Being the least smelly pile of garbage on the block, doesnt make you less garbage. Thats not an attack on you; its directly to this overarching argument of "this is the best for an MMO" type position. Thats a cop out, not an argument.
This is 2019. This game engine hails from the early 2000's. Thats not old; in tech terms, thats an antique. And not a very shiny, attractive one. And it shows in the way the game plays. The insistence of Zenimax on using dated tech has begun to seriously detract from the experience of playing their games.
So yeah, go check out any melee combat oriented, offline game. Because you could throw a stone in any direction in a gamestop or other retailer, and bounce it off cases of a dozen games with far, far better melee combat than this one.
Thats great. I'm glad you dont.
Lots of people do. And the worst part of it is...that the awful combat, is literally the ONLY thing keeping a LOT of people from playing the game. Which is a damn shame, because the game is quite good in so many other ways.
If only they didnt push combat so hard. Or had spent time actually making a weighty, impactful, fun to use combat system instead of badly disguised, WoW tab targeting and ability rotation.
Either way, you're not the only one who has an issue with it's combat. I've seen a few other people comment on this before. Personally I like it, and I kinda disagree on the whole revamp-idea, but I get where you're coming from.
That being said, I hope it isn't a deal breaker for you (like it has been for a few others), because like you mentioned, it IS a great game. (But if you seriously want to make these suggestions to the devs, they don't frequent the Steam forums, so you'll have to make a post on their website)
Completely disagree, this game has the same targeting system as Skyrim which has 10-20 million owners per SteamSpy estimates. ESO has 2-5 million owners on Steam per SteamSpy again and who knows how many from the standalone Bethesda PC client.
a) the short duration of buffs and debuffs, rarely have i played an arpg, crpg or mmo with such awekward rotations cause you constantly need to recast buffs/debuffs
b) the importance of meta-animation-cancelling. i dunno but the whole system felt and still feels more like a bug than a feature to me, but that's nowhere near as important as duration buffing for me.
Animations are piss poor, and this game has quite a few parkour missions, yet the movement is on the level of some early 2000-ish game.
Been here since 2014, and it has not improved one bit. Gotta push that crown store junk somehow.
Just out of curiosity, how would you improve it? Like DmC hack and slash? Could you explain more, please.
I mean more power to you,but the only ones that might care are the ones that agree with you,the rest of us aren't going to care.Combat isn't the best, neither is the story, neither are the graphics, neither are the crown store prices.
Everyone has there reason to play a game, and if yours is combat and you already played it and hated it,why did you do it again knowing you wouldn't like it and then just come here to complain about it and have it fall on deaf ears to boot.
Maybe just swallow your damn pride and enjoy a game with your girl who enjoys it,sometimes in life we do things we don't like just because someone else enjoys it!
Last combat is subjective and just because you find it bad and others agree with you doesn't mean it should be changed just for you.Millions play this game and like it and never share that, but 99% of people who dislike something will make sure the world knows!
So what ends up happening is people come across those post and think it's what most of the fan base wants, when in reality the most vocal ones are usually the ones that have a complaint not ones who love it.
They could of easily fixed it ages ago atleast fix the weaving but of course they only care about money not the people playing.
