Does gear level matter?

I've had the same gear for like 12 levels now, someone crafted a good set with training perks and set bonuses for my build and I don't want to get rid of it. I have noticed myself taking more damage and dying more than usual recently but I'm not sure if that's because I'm leveling up and doing harder content or if it's due to my gear. Should I swap out my old gear for gear that has worse set bonuses and less bonus xp perks? Or am I good to use this gear until I'm cp160? I heard something about gear level not mattering due to level scaling or something like that, that's why I'm asking. Sorry, I'm still pretty new to this game and don't know much about gear lol.

I used level 40 Training gear until I was CP160

of course it matters, all stats are superior, and also your max hp is reduced without gear of your lv.

I would advise to replace your gear every 10 levels as a maximum bearable number.

The damage of your weapons, the protection granted by your armour, and the bonuses of your enchants will be gradually reduced as you outlevel your gear.

And if you do pvp , change gear every 4 lvl

set bonuses are pointless under cp 160. you are going to replace every piece every time you find a higher lvl gear

Inded it does.

Basically, don't worry much about collecting any gear before CP 160.

gear does not matter until level 160. Yes you may find it harder to play over time, just wear any junk items you find randomly. From level 160 you can bother with sets and upgrading your stuff.
