Also cannot forget about the jellyfish looking netch you can earn from the murkmire dailies in Stormhold located in Shadowfen. Its a cool glowing pet but the grind to get it is nuts. Easier to save the gold and buy the parts from traders.
The ones that choose not to sub have to pay for the service.
Mounts can be earned from daily rewards. One can be gained from the Sunspire trial. Twitch crates have a low drop rate of a mount. During events players can collect items to unlock the Indrik Mount and different varieties (skins) of it.
Most outfit styles come from motifs, and personally, I think those are better than the costume designed (google ESO Motif list and see for yourself). You can get pets from public dungeons, or just buying runeboxes for like 20k gold from Guild Traders.
That being said, most mounts and pets are only available from crown store. The only thing you have a vast availability to, in terms of customization, is your character's outfit. ESO offers more than any MMO I've seen when it comes to outfit styles that you don't have to pay real money for.
