Why are 99% of the cosmetics/mounts/pets only purchasable
I understand its an MMO but most MMO's dont even do it this bad.

So that they can earn money? Since they didn't make the game pay to win, they needed other motivations for people to buy things from their in-game store. You can still customize your characters outfit extensively without paying money though (search up a list of motifs, all of those can be used to customize your character), and buy pets from guild traders for gold and earn one from the Public Dungeon in Alikir, but the thing with mounts sucks, yeah.

Because it´s ZO$.

Its the Public Dungeon in Bangkorai with the spider pet, but it is in the Hammer side of the region. You also have the indrik mount you can earn during special events, and you can look through your collections to find other cosmetics you can earn ingame. Of course many of those cosmetics are in DLC zones but a few are not.

Also cannot forget about the jellyfish looking netch you can earn from the murkmire dailies in Stormhold located in Shadowfen. Its a cool glowing pet but the grind to get it is nuts. Easier to save the gold and buy the parts from traders.

Because It's still a sub game at the core. People subbing get crowns for every month they pay so they can enjoy the cosmetics.
The ones that choose not to sub have to pay for the service.

I get every crown store item just playing, i play, i get gold and items, i trade my gold with people who trade crown items for gold (i use Tamriel Crown Exchange to avoid scams, the current rate is 225 gold for 1 crown) so to me the items are literally free because i don't expend money
you can just buy crowns for gold you earn in game... or you get 1500 crowns every month for just subscribing and you get the crafting bag which makes making money a lot easier.. and a lot of the stuff in the crown store you can earn in game too.. not all of it but a lot of it

Outfit styles are the biggest part of the cosmetics system and they're free.

Very little you can earn, not only do you need to make the purchase of the game, but also shoves a subscription in your face, Neverwinter, WoW, The only other 2 MMO's I've put time into dont even have a close relation to the earn to money ratio, in Neverwinter and WoW I was able to earn A LOT of Outfits, Mounts, Pets. You name it, I love this game so far, but its disgusting how much if it isnt earnable, for the base game, Most of the earnable stuff is through DLC's.

Hell, I saw a post from 2016-2017? talking about how there was 74 mounts in the game and only 1 being earnable, and I doubt much has changed since then.

Mounts can be earned from daily rewards. One can be gained from the Sunspire trial. Twitch crates have a low drop rate of a mount. During events players can collect items to unlock the Indrik Mount and different varieties (skins) of it.

Most outfit styles come from motifs, and personally, I think those are better than the costume designed (google ESO Motif list and see for yourself). You can get pets from public dungeons, or just buying runeboxes for like 20k gold from Guild Traders.

That being said, most mounts and pets are only available from crown store. The only thing you have a vast availability to, in terms of customization, is your character's outfit. ESO offers more than any MMO I've seen when it comes to outfit styles that you don't have to pay real money for.
