How to craft outfits? What are writs?
Hello,

I have no clue about the crafting part of the game and been hearing about writs and daily writs here and there.

I'm CP 146 currently and have 0 clue on how to craft and I really wanna change my outfit because I have only the achievement given ones at the moment.

Ok , well every major city has some crafting stations for wood , metal / iron and clothes ( I guess you know that already ) . Also there's an outfit station where you can change the look of your character ( thats only for how you look outside ) . For example you may use heavy armor but in reality you have only light armor equipped , same goes for the weapons . Now about the crafting , first of all you need to collect materials from the nature , then refine them and finally you can craft whatever you want . However you need to lvl up each of the three skills ( woodworking , metallurgy and clothing ) and spend some points on them as well ( each one needs 10 points and can reach up to lvl 50 ) . After all that you'll be able to craft up to lvl 160 gear ( keep in mind that you 'll need to upgrade your gear , so deconstruction of some items would be necessary , plus it helps you lvl up each of the three skills faster , cause it inspires you . Another important thing is doing research . Research takes real time to finish so you need to always have sth researching . Last but not least I believe each major city has some daily quests which gives you some writs . I believe the quests ask you to craft sth and you're rewarded with writs ( not entirely sure , cause I never really tried them so far ) . I'm pretty sure that with writs you can get some cosmetics , such as the ebony armor and some other equipment . Hope that helped .
P.S
There's also provisioning ( food , drinks etc ) , alchemy and enchanting . Everything I said above applies to them as well .

Okay, so not to be a jerk, but the first post here was slightly misleading. Crafting is a big and daunting and somewhat confusing thing at first, and can take some getting used to. Let me start with your first question about outfits. There are many ways to customize your characters appearance: Skins which change your characters actual skin (most of these are from vet trial/dungeon achievements and some from crown store), polymorphs which change entirely how your character looks (some come from zone quests, some from trial achievements, some from tel var (the Imperial City currency) runeboxes), costumes which are mostly earned from zone achievements/quests or crown store purchases, major and minor adornments like nose rings or tiaras (mostly from crown store, but some from events), hats from all different sources, tattoos from mostly the crown store but at least 1 quest I know of, and finally your outfit. Outfits are learned from motifs primarily, and a few outfit pages for specific weapons and armor. The more motifs you know, the more options you have to change what each piece of your gear looks like - for instance, if you know the entire Ebonheart Pact motif, you can make any piece of your gear look like that style for a small amount of gold at an Outfit station. If you only know the Ebonheart Pact swords portion of the Ebonheart Pact motif, then unfortunately you can only make your sword look like it. Style pages function similarly to motifs, but they only allow you to change the appearance of specific types of equipment to that style, whereas knowing a motif allows you to actually craft a piece of gear in that particular style. By default each character has 1 outfit slot. You can purchase more in the crown store, up to 8. You can then assign the different styles to each piece of gear in each outfit slot which would allow you to customize the specific way you wanted each outfit slot to look like, and then change between them at your pleasure. Allows you to create a vaiety of looks with the easy switch of a button. You can access the list of different ways you can customize the way your character looks using the collections page in game. Appearance holds all the skins, polymorphs, costumes, hats and adornments. At the bottom of the collections page there is the armor styles and weapon styles tabs that shows you all the unlocked styles you can use. All the items in the appearance tab can be activated by selecting them there, however armor styles and weapon styles need to be selected using the outfit stations you can find in major cities, for the small gold fee. Also, some appearance stuff overrides other things - polymorphs basically make everything but your weapons look like the polymorph, skins hide tattoos, hats and costumes hide the outfit you have selected, and outfits hide what the gear you have equipped looks like in its native style.

I need to take a small break, but will explain the writs and daily writs momentarily

Also, there are something like 80 or so motifs in the game at this point, and quite a few style pages. It can take a lot of work to learn them all. This link - https://eso.mmo-fashion.com can show you pretty much everything you can possibly do to change the way your characters looks, including polymorphs, skins, costumes, hats, motifs, style pages and adornments.

There are two types of writs - daily crafting writs and master writs. Daily crafting writs are quests you can pick up from the daily writ crafting boards you find in every major city outside of Cyrodil and beginner zones. In order to start doing these daily writs you must first become certified in each craft - the quest for becoming certified comes from those same boards you will find in those same cities, and will send you to the fighters and mages guild in the major city of your factions first primary zone beyond the beginner zones (Davon's watch in Stonefalls if your EP, Daggerfall in Glenumbra if your DC, Vulkhel Guard in Auridon if your AD). Basically, find a board, pick up the quests, and head to those places to meet an NPC and do some easy stuff to get certified. Once certified, you can pick up a quest each day for each craft you are certified in at those boards, make the items the writ quest asks of you, and then turn those items in to a nearby location. The quests reward gold, experience both for your character and in that specific crafting skill, materials - up to and including gold refinement mats- items of ornate (can be sold to merchants for higher amounts of gold) or intricate (items whigh when deconstructed at a crafting station give significantly higher amounts of exp towards that craft than other non-intricate items) traits, and at the highest levels can give master writs, so these daily writ quests can be very very lucrative to perform each day. The quest given to you by the board will always be for items you can craft at your specific skill level in each craft according to how many points you have put into the skill lines main allotment to improve its ability to craft higher level gear (it is the first skill you can put points into for each crafting skill tree except for enchanting and provisioning, for which the 2nd skill in the line is the one you put points into to allow you to craft higher level gear). Only the highest level of each craft can drop master writs, though I havent noticed much of a difference in gold material drop rates for lower level daily writs. Provisioning writ rewards can also drop recipes in green, blue, and purple quality relative to that level of your provisioning skill.

Master writs are very different. They drop randomly from completing daily writs, and are items, which can then be traded, sold on guild stores, or completed yourself. The master writ when selected offers a quest to make a very specific piece of gear from a specific set, with a specific trait, in a specific style, at a specific quality level and always at least cp 150 (which requires you to max out the crafting skills main skill line with points). For instance, a woodworking master writ could ask for a ruby ash (cp 150/160 material) restoration staff, with the powered trait, in the kagrenacs hope set, at epic quality. Anything besides those specifics listed would not count as the item it wants. You can only accept one master writ quest at a time, so its important to never accept a writ you cannot complete (being able to craft items in a certain type of set require you to have learned a certain number of traits for the type of item you want to craft, some sets require you to have learned all 9 out of 9 traits for an item, so if you dont know the number of traits necessary, you cant make the item) as once you accept the quest, the master writ item is destroyed, and you either complete the master writ by making the item and turning it in, or abandon the quest forever losing the reward opportunity. Master writs come in all of the different crafts, again only dropped from completing max level daily writs - or purchasing them from ppl who got them that way. They reward you with exp, gold, and writ vouchers which can be used to purchase items from the NPC you turn the master writs into, or their assistant nearby. Recently master writs have found immense popularity for levelling new characters as they give a lot of exp upon completion. Provisioning master writs require you to know a specific recipe. Alchemy and enchanting are easy, and as such they are the popular ones for ppl to use to level up.

I laid a literal crap ton of info on you. I wont be surprised if you are a bit intimidated, but just breeze through it, the master writ section isnt as important for you right now, but very useful in the future. If you have any questions, or would like a clarification or further explanation dont hesitate to ask. Lastly, crafting requires a ton of materials, and as such, is incredibly difficult to participate in a meaningful way without the craft bag from ESO+. If you dont have it and want to do crafting, I highly advise getting it, or seriously put some gold into maxing out inventory space and a plan on how to accomplish the juggling of mats you will need to do.
