Should I start crafting my own armor?
I have 3 pieces of the trainee set and that's better than the stuff I can find at the trader. Never saw the last two pieces I needed.
I did see a heavy armor chestpiece that was part of the set but I already have the medium armor chestpiece that's part of the set and I wear medium armor because I'm a sneaky wood elf that snipes with a bow.
It's kind of odd you see two chestpieces while leveling up but not the entire set during the story missions. Maybe the rest of it is in side quests I missed?
nope, because no one bothers with selling anything that is not max level gear, which is logical since traders have a finite number of slots available for selling per guild trader (30 slots per person) and because you can find low level gear by yourself by going around the map and opening loot chests that contain pieces of armor and weapons and a bit of gold, the loot you get this way will always be at your current level at the time of opening the chest.
you can find training gear at any level by going back to the starter area and opening those loot chests to find pieces of Armor Of the Trainee set at your level.
If you really want to you can go to delves, dungeons (using df), world bosses etc., and pick up whatever gear you get from them. Or you can craft your own.
I highly recommend crafting your own gear as soon as you get a character that has crafting leveled up. Before that though, I highly recommend running at least the three Dolemen in Auridon. That will help with a few things: leveling up, getting new gear for free, and getting new gear that you can either sell in a guild or take apart to help level up your crafting quicker. Just make sure that you have some health potions for your level, and maybe a few soul gems before you try out the Dolemen, in case you run into any troubles. Weekends are good for doing Dolemen for new characters (especailly in starting places like Auridon), becuase there are usually a lot of people around so, less chance of dying or getting really hurt on your own. Tip on finding guilds to join: check out the Guilds section of the official ESO website. There are always guild recruting on there. It's also a good place to find tips for new players, and ask question. Also a good place to read about upcoming updates. YouTube has a lot of people who post videos dedicated to various aspects of the game, as well. Best of luck with everything!
