Can't really compare to Destiny 2. That game is free to play. Literally anybody can download it and start playing.
From what I have read, the game is doing fine. It has a sustainable business model, worthwhile features befitting the subscription, and a ton of great content. This game is solid. Solid games sell.

This is very impressive considering the game is not free to play. It is estimated that ESO is *Maybe* second only to WoW, but Blizzard has kept player counts quiet since the embarassingly huge drop off from WoW after they ruined the game. ESO is absolutely alive and well. It hasn't yet peaked according to the data.
Comparing to D2...Jesus.
Can never understand this train of thought that players need to have hundreds of thousands of people in the back of their minds while playing when in fact every day they only run into a few hundred at most and then they freak out if they see any drop in player numbers as if it has had some sort of detrimental effect on them personally.
Listen kid, only that you are able to see data of player numbers, you would have no clue if 100k or 10k was playing. STAHP worrying and just enjoy the game.Find an active big guild and you will never need to feel worried about numbers again.
20k is a small number for an MMO, imo.
On the matter of fact - a low playerbase means that there are almost only high-level players which makes it difficult to enjoy the MMO aspects early on. You won't encounter many ppl I agree, but seeing desolated locations is frustrating, at least for me.
In WoW classic there are 30k on a single server so that may be a fair comparison.
Anyway thank you to others who shared their opinion without hitting the ♥♥♥♥-fan like GUiness guardian.
If you have any other thoughts on the game - feel free, i really need your advice on this one
compare it to retail wow, where also the most players reside in endgame zones etc.
on the other hand, eso has no "high level" per se. every zone is scaling to you, so its just a matter of "do i like doing things here in the snow, or rather go to a dessert?" theres always ppl around, to a degree where it kind of gets annoying in some quests, when you get to the boss and another person is already wailing at him and i missed some flavour text etc.. :)
