As an example, my Nightblade has the following skill lines maxed out:
* All three class ability lines' passives, plus a couple skills from each of them. All skills in Assassination.
* Dual Wield passives, plus some skills there.
* Two Handed passives, plus a few skils there.
* Medium Armor passives.
* Blacksmithing, all but one passive.
* Clothing, all but one passive.
* Woodworking, all but one passive.
* Enchanting, all but one passive.
Edit: I forgot that I also have some skills in the Mage's Guild (Persuasive Will, Comet when I hit rank 10), Fighter's Guild (Dawnbreaker + morph, Trap Beast + morph), Dark Brotherhood (mount passive, SUPER HANDY), Thieve's Guild (bonus Fence prices), and Ledgerdemain lines.
I have at least a few points tossed in other places, like Alliance War lines (Vigor, Caltrops, and the passive for a 10m buff when you capture a resource), Alchemy (potion duration increase), Provisioning (food buff duration increase).
And I have a bunch of skill points left over from:
* Cyrodiil Skyshards
* Cadwell's Gold zone Skyshards
* PvP Ranks (each time you gain a rank you get a skill point, unsure how many total)
* Cadwell's Gold zone story quests
* A few dungeon quests I haven't done
Early on you will be starved for points (until around level 20 or 30), but there will come a point where you will have so many you won't know what to do with. At one point I was sitting on like 15 points and had nowhere to put them.
My advice: look up a good build that you're going to use, and get those skills maxed out first. Then work on professions/etc.
About what I said on professions: if you lack the funds to buy your own equipment every 10 levels or so, then level the two professions that suit your class. For example, if you're playing a typical Magicka Sorcerer, that'd be Clothing and Woodworking (for Staves).
Even more important, which I also forgot about, is that researching traits on equipment takes FOREVER. (30+ days when you hit 8 or 9 traits) So doing that while you're leveling, before you need to craft set pieces, is a really, really good idea. Good set pieces require 6+ traits on every piece you intend to craft. Since you'll need a bare minimum of 5 pieces (minus head/shouler, since those are typically reserved for Monster helm/shoulders), you'll need to compensate by having that ready to go early.
The most important traits you're going to want early are:
Armor: Divines, Infused (subjective), and Impen if you're going to PvP.
Staves: Sharpened, Precise
Regardless, though, I would collect every single crafting node you come upon (this can get annoying, as they're pretty abundant in some areas) for a few reasons:
1. You'll need the materials, and they aren't exactly cheap.
2. Rare materials, such as the Legendary runestone "Kuta", sell really well.
3. You have a chance to loot an "Aetherial Dust" from crafting nodes in most zones. These sell for around 75k, but they're super-rare.
Also, while killing stuff, you have a chance to loot an "Aetherial Cipher" (or similar name), also a yellow-text item, which is even more expensive than the dust.
