what?, its not, theres no maintenance right now,its been postponed to 3rd january

Downtime is tomorrow like the pop up says when you login.If you can't get in something on your end is causing a problem either on your computer or your isp is doing something.

Unless the NA servers are overcrowded the EU servers are fine just loged in 2min ago.So check your isp and computer the server downtime is tomorrow that time.

I'm having trouble, the official support forums say the maintenance is finished - same error every time.

Game refuses to login, only installed it two days ago and tried to play for first time today...

Also - launcher is slow to open - I'm on i7 Mac Pro, 16GB ram 4GB Graphics - so not a requirements issue.

OK - one think I've just ran was the "verify integrity" (right click game in library, local files, verify) and some files needed re-downloading... will update in a mo if it fixes it...

I think the issue is with your OS - while Mac is compatible with ESO it is not recommended. It should work fine during gameplay, but because the launcher has to configure itself with your OS that it wasn't originally designed for, you could experience slowdowns in that department. As far as the maintnence goes, the servers seem to be up for me. Cheers!

Really don't think that comment is relevant - OS is listed as supported and there is no mention on the ESO site that the OS is not recommended, architecture isn't as different these days with intel chipsets and I did get past the launcher anyway.
