first steam downloads BASE game and DLC'S, then ESO launcher downloads ALL Updates made to game since launch and there have been many.

if you buy just BASE GAME, you still get download of full game. Why, in case you decide to buy afew dlc's-just pay for them, log out of steam, then enter again and your dlc's are ready to play. Already downloaded.

@trigger not helpful.
I purchased "elder scrolls online: tamriel unlimited" and it's a 62 gb install, then when i open the application it tells me i need to install another 87 gb of game files

is there a way to avoid the second install or are both installs necessary to play the game?

Trigger said multiple times that steam downloads the game. The launcher downloads everything added after the release on steam. Come on man. Ain't hard to understand. xD

people dont seem to understand that any game downloads the bace (or how it was day 1) and then all its updates. every update adds to the size

ESO recommands 85 GB for game installation. It's not over 85 GB yet. STEAM has screwed something in their download.

If you read the store page for ESO on Steam, it says all thats needed for ESO to run is an account with ESO, not STEAM, steam is a middle-man you involved by buying ESO through Steam. Should have bought ESO from ESO website with just 1 very long download. Steam has it's own download and then you have to download through ESO launcher the updates.
Man. Y'all were something else seven years ago. I'm so high that I'm basically on Mars right now and reading this entire thread is giving me a headache. So I take it, the game content installs through Steam, along with the launcher. The launcher already detects content with steam, but no update data. So, it prompts for updates, which have built up over the years and are now gigs to install all at once.

TLDR; Steam has the ESO content, launcher is installing all updates since the steam version was released. [insert asking why they don't update steam version here]
Edit: They do update the steam version. The launcher says it will install 20 gigs and install nothing.
