It's updating the game and launcher. Did that to me too. What I've understood, launcher is older than it should be so it updates all the updates there has come.

its actually only 80 gigs, the reason it need almost double than that is because for some ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ reason that unknown for me, zenimax client is crap, its download basically the compressed full file of ESO, and than it extract said content, for extracting it, it need almost the same size of the downloaded file, thus why it asked for double the reccomended size, why they handle it like this?, its beyond me

For me, Steam downloaded 66,6 GB and I had some updates before I could play the game (nothing close to 80 GB, though; judging by the time it took, it was barely over 1 GB). The folder containing the game has 80 GBs of data in it.
Well yeah, thats pretty much bs. I spent a whole half day downloading this, expecting it to, you know, actually install, except that it just downloaded some compressed installer file, which now needs more than double the listed space to actually finish installing things.

Seeing as I only had about 100GB available on that drive when downloading a 60GB file, now I cant actually install the game, because for some inexplicable reason I cant tell the SECOND installer WHERE I want the game to be installed.

Thanks Zenimax. This is why I never end up playing half your games.

Thanks to the above posts, It "downloaded" in like 5 mins and only used up 2 more gb of space. the launcher is weird.

It seems like they took the approach the ps4/xbox one did and it requires double the space. 80 for downloading and 80 for extracting and then deleting the old files. thats the tldr of what i have read

Had the same problem here. Had to free 66GB for the steam version, only to find it needs to install again requiring extra 85 GB. Can't Steam download the latest version already?

From what i have read its a glitch cause of the launcher version or something there is a poossible fix online, i cant link it at the moment as i am on my phone but just google eso 100 gb i9nstall or somethign like that
Have you tried this A work around ?

It seems that its due to Steam downloading one version - the NA version, but the launcher downloading the EU.
