you're not going to experience full-fledged combat in the starting area/tutorial island. dungeons can be found on the overworld starting as early as the next area, take them on immediately if you'd like
khenarthi's roost is home to some of the most sacred places of worship for khajiit so im not sure what you expect. and stereotypes exist for a reason.
Since all games starting from Morrowind are made by same team, ESO is as much canon as Morrowind or Skyrim.
And, you're complaining about gear choice... on level 7? Duuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuude. ESO have about 300 sets (if include about 30 monster sets, Maelstrom weapons (as 1, not per type) and all crafting/locations/dungeons/trials ones) to cusomize. More than 50 styles, from racial Nord/Bosmer/etc to trial ones (like Silken Ring) and festival (like Hollowjack).
Same with dungeons, khajiits and other stuff.
Except stereotypes. You're 700+ years before those things turned into stereotypes, remember? ESO is 2nd era, and Morrowind is 3rd. Its like, i dunno, use time machine to go into 60s and complain about hippies smoke weed is a stereotype. Yeah, so? And bosmers are cannibals.
I disagree that lore in ESO is pretty good, its a-okay. Like, Minnimarco corrupted The Amulet of Kings, which is the Stone of White Gold Tower, and let Molag Bal invade Nirn? Okay, cool, nothing wrong here. What about all those ancors all across Tamriel, then? White Gold Tower wasnt only Tower on Tamriel.
Why we can see ancors all across Tamriel (except DLC areas, no delves in Orsinium, Hew's Bane, Golden Coast and Morrowind), why all other Towers are silent?
There was talking about no ancors in Morrowins because its prequel... for meat's sake, its because whole Red Mountain is growing around Red Tower (hello, TES3)! But what about Hew's Bane? Pffft.
Where are all other Towers? ZoS made whole game around one of them, but what about others? There should be one on nameless mapless island near Stromhaven (which is Isle of Balfiera), one on Summerset Isles (that one nameless and mapless near Auridon), another one is in Valenwood (hey, Elden Tree)...
WTH? One of Nirn-Oblivion Defence System hubs was temporary disabled (corruped link between Stone and Tower, none of Stone or Tower was destroyed) , and whole thing is broken then? Its like door was closed on 12 locks. You broke one and other 11 was unlocked automatically. Stupid.
But maybe its me wrong, i'm not into lore much.
also, don't say "there are 300 sets in game" yeah so what? 90% of them are garbage
Like, Night Terror + Night Mother's Embrace combo. I didnt see much people use it, but... as i asked, not much of people knows that those stealth bonuses stacks with both sets and medium armor, making you a real ninja. Good for thievery, Thieves/Brotherhood missions or ninja attacks in Cyro, since you can swap from perfect stealth to perfect attack in 0,5 sec with clicking one button (if you're using set swapping addons like GearSwap or Outfitter or...).
Or i dont see Molag Kena those days much. Same as i dont see Netch in Sorc's sets much. Elemental Succession? Same.
But any 1st builder use Aether, OV, Burning Spellware and other justinbieber sets (and you must have Maelstrom weapons as well, of GTFO), putting a duck on all other stuff.
most of my issue with it lore wise is less of their speech and such, more of some models and origins, for example i saw a thalmor soldier that was a khajit, the thalmor have been prior known to be strictly high elves seeking to "purge" or "enslave" the "lower races", i suppose an alliance or covenant might bring them closer, but i would never put it to the thalmor to bring another race INTO their own ranks, let alone one of the "lower races"
my friend who has been playing much longer than I have agrees with that, the pvp would seem limited since most "classes" in the game seem really limited in both choice and general ability (having 5 abilities usable on the hot bar feels a bit lacking for an MMO), he even said that there are a solid 2 builds that would be viable because everything else seems lacking. As someone who loves fashion and beauty in a game, i looked into the armor sets and yes, most of them do look rather plain in comparison to previous games
I feel like most of the blame should go to zenimax for butchering a chunk of what WAS in order to sate the what IS, aka reflect on the lore and tie things together rather than make it seem more like you playing as some generic soldier with a slightly higher purpose than the others
the aldmeri dominion yes, but the thalmor specifically?
The Thalmor at the time of ESO is a fringe organization with very little influence. The Dominion don't like them at all.
10 abilities, with lvl you unlock weapon swap with it's own bar.
"you playing as some generic soldier with a slightly higher purpose than the others"
So? What's wrong with that? Would be silly if everyone you meet is some kind of grand archmage or general swordmaster.
"solid 2 builds that would be viable because everything else seems lacking"
That is called meta, anything with multiplayer got that.
"I want to enjoy this game but it's becoming very, VERY hard to even slug my way to the next uninteresting quest area"
When I started I felt exact same way, but it got interesting when I started to read quest and stop caring about grinding lvl's.
