Anyway it wasn't an account issue, the client crashed before any login. I couldn't find any way to repair, so in the end I bit the bullet...
I uninstalled everything and repeated the whole process(except Bitdefender didn't complain this time). Good thing I don't have a metered connection XD
Only 1 GB left in the launcher now!
The size after the installation should be 77.7GB. (24.10.2017)

This is a generic message from me that includes some thing you may or may not have tried already, still give it a look.
Make sure you have:
-A stable internet Connection
-LEGIT copy of Windows
-Meet the minumum requirements of the game
/Have the game on a proper HDD that still functions properly and not abused as hell, that can still properly read and write/
-Set your Steam and ESO location/language accordingly and properly
That you're not restricted of some features/settings because you're not an administrator. etc etc
-Make sure you're running the 64bit version only if you also use a 64bit Windows
-Repair the game from the Launcher under Options
Wish you the best.
I have indeed uninstalled/deleted everything and reinstalled. Now the game works fine :)
I *still* don't see the repair option though: https://i.imgur.com/4shNs7q.png
Odd.

HTH
Edit:
You may have to wait for the entire download/installation to finish before you see it (that is just an idea, I am merely guessing as to why you cannot see it yet in your Launcher).
Does the game start fine if you launch it from with the Game Folder, as you stated? As in, can you login and play without issues? Is it just that the Launcher looks different?
You can try going to the Bethesda website and downloading the Launcher from there and installing the Web version (non-Steam version), to see if that creates a clean, new installation of the game, and see if you can login to your Bethesda Account from that... but I see now you say that you don't want to re-download the game again, heh. If you are having troubles playing, you might want to try that though, to get a fresh install (it is just a Suggestion).
Ohhh man *now* I see it! How did I completely miss that part of the screen before XD
That is a sneaky little menu.
Yes, I just installed from Steam, then after the first boot let the launcher do its thing.
That sounds like the early launcher from the first boot. What happens if you press Install?
