Selene's is a good monster set to run; you'll see it a lot. You'll see Velidreth (the 3 disease orb thing) a LOT more, though, for some reason; despite both sets scaling with CP (and also mitigated by it). I suppose if all three orbs can hit the same target at once that would justify everyone running it. Otherwise, I see no real reason why as, for example, Selene's does more base damage (though it is physical compared to disease).

As for a non-proc set: Clever Alchemist is decent, if you don't mind having to chug pots to maximize its potential. Personally, I don't like relying on having to chug a pot to get the most out of an armor set.

Though the buff it provides does last 15 seconds, chances are against another competant player, that buff will run out before one of you wins. At that point you're at a disadvantage becuase your potions are still on cooldown.

Other than that, Draugr Hulk is a good one due to the massive amount of Stamina it provides (more damage, more sustain). You could easily get away with nothing but health enchants on that set, and still be ahead of using another set with Stamina enchants. (The extra Stamina (thus extra ability damage) would greatly outweigh most other sets.)

With that amount of Stamina, just from the set bonuses alone, you're talking probably around 1.2k (or more) extra ability damage. (Not weapon damage.)

If your CP was maxed out also, then you could likely be alright with Stamina enchants on it as well, for ridiculous amounts of Stamina (and more damage from it). I think with that getup you'd be pushing 40k, and probably around 22k health with a food buff.

If you're just going for a gank build, then Viper is the way to go, since it doesn't require you to be in melee range to deal damage. The bad part about those builds is once someone slots Magelight and starts poking around for you, your fun is over; especially if you're found. (Or if another NB hits you with Piercing Mark.)

Also keep in mind that trying to 1v1 Sorcs is a risky business, both because they have access to ridiculously powerful damage shields, and because the Destruction Staff ultimate (Elemental Storm; Eye of Flame/Eye of the Storm) is absurdly strong and will most likely one-shot you even in a full set of Impen gear and with you having 25k+ health.

The only way to really mitigate that ultimate is to be in heavy gear, have Elemental Defender (CP) very high, and probably have some kind of other magicka resist buff going. It's the only ability in the game I've personally seen deal 30k+ damage on use; nothing else came even close to that.

That being said, your best bet will be to:

1. Figue out what kind of build you want to play: gank, tanky, sustain, etc.
2. Look at some gear sets (or ask around) to see what a lot of people use or recommend.
3. Once you have 1 & 2 worked out, check on your abilities and slot what you need.

For a NB, I recommend having at least one of these abilities slotted at all times:

1. Damage Mitigation (Mirage or the other morph; the Med. Armor one is worse though, don't use it.)

2. Escape method (Shadowy Disguise; countered by Piercing Mark, Magelight, and another ability or two. May require you running away a bit to actually work.)

3. A Heal of some kind. (In your case, Resolving Vigor)

4 & 5. Damage-dealing abilities. Surprise Attack and Killer's Blade are good choices, if you're dual-wielding. If you're using two-handed, Dizzying Swing and Executioner are good choices.

Don't rule out heavy attacks as sources of damage, though. Due to animation canceling, it's very possible to incorporate heavy attacks in to your abilities for ridiculous burst damage. This will require some practice, though, as not all animations are timed the same.

Your secondary bar, whatever it is, should be your support and supplementary damage bar.

For me, that was my Bow bar. I had abilities on it like Snipe, Poison Injection, Piercing Mark, etc. Using Piercing Mark from sneak is quite fun, because it doesn't break sneak and also watching people wander around looking for your from 35? yards off is hilarious.

I can't stress enough about your ability choices, though: having a way to mitigate damage is KEY. Mirage is a 20% chance to negate all damage, plus it offers a resist buff in the event you actually take damage. The difference between having it and not having it means the difference in potentially winning the fight.

Pair that with a preemptive Vigor and chances are you'll live through most 1v1 encounters. If things get sticky, you have Shadowy Disguise to duck away and heal real quick, and open back up after casting Vigor again.

Oh, and a gap closer like Critical Rush or Ambush is also a very good option and highly recommended.
