What do you mean by "no auto-correct for mages and spells"?
That's the thing, though... you don't have to just mindlessly spam abilities, because most classes now have a focused rotation that's much, much more optimal.
Heh, at one point, after the first skill pruning that took place, there was a one-button macro for one of the Hunter specs that did everything for you. Needless to say that spec has had more added to it, and the ability to use such macros was also broken, but still.
You might have 50 abilities, but you don't need to be using all of them by any means. Especially for one type of content, no less.
As an example, I believe Arms Warriors use a rotation now that is... six? buttons total, give or take one or two extra based on talents and equipment (trinkets). Anything off the GCD can also be macroed right in to another ability if you like.
That, and every single class in the game isn't pigeonholed in to "MOAR DOTS" like the current meta in ESO.. something that I REALLY hope they change in Morrowind.
That's the problem with ESO currently, though... there's a handful of builds that work great but take time to master, and the rest... are absolute garbage, and would get you kicked from Trial groups for running. (And maybe even vet dungeon groups, sadly.)
I do think there is one effective Ice Mage build floating around, though! The other Staff-based one focuses around a Fire Staff, like you said, and a Lightning Staff on your offbar (AoE bar).
If you're Stamina, it's DW/Bow all day, with a class ability or two tossed in (NBs get Surprise Attack until vMA weapons, DKs get Venomous Claw (another DoT!), and I'm unsure what Stamsorcs use other than their self-buffs).
What I would like to see happen in Morrowind is a complete combat overhaul, which brought all weapon types and styles to about the same level as one another, so you had true freedom as to what you wanted to play. Yeah, some might be like 1% better, but at least it would be so close that you could still use, say, two-handed if you felt like it.
As it stands right now, two-handed is so bad in PvE that people will question you using a 2H weapon as soon as you queue in to a dungeon and potentially boot you. (I've seen this happen.. more than once.)
If Warden focuses on 2H gameplay at all, I see a balance pass coming. If they're pigeonholed in to DW/Bow, too... then probably not.
But hey, at least 2H is viable for PvP (like everything else already is, while still being viable for PvE, too)... so there's that, I guess.
Eso has more depth and more to do for your character buuut wow has better and more endgame content, eso has more interesting content.
They are looking into making 2 handed count as to slows like d2 so you can wear 2 sets with 1 monster set.
Best thing ESO has going for it in comparison is it's not by Blizzard, who are blood suckers that should make EA look like a charity. With WoW you pay premium prices for the base game, premium prices for each of the many xpacs, and on top of that you pay a monthly sub, and on top of that, should you need/want any account services you'll pay insane amounts for that (because why should you actually get anything for that sub). To hop into WoW fressh without ever having already paid for it in chunks over time would be a very daunting financial experience.
But why does there have to be a comparison? Why pick. Play that which suits you and that could be both.
For me personally, I'm trying (or tried, dunno if I'll continue beyond the first hour or so because it's boring as hell) this 7 day free thing and ESO just doesn't do anything for me. The combat sucks, the graphics look 10 years old, and the game just doesn't feel right to me. It's very hard to judge an MMORPG without playing a character to mid levels since most of these games reveal over time, but at the same time, the noob/intro needs to grab you, and with ESO, it doesn't, it puts me to sleep. Where a game like Skrim has an interesting and compelling opening with eye candy galore, ESO opens with generic trope and generic graphics that look 10 years out of date.
Yes, WoW is ancient but since it never went for remotely realistic graphics its graphics have always looked amazing to me due to have flavor and a vibe that just works. WoW has more generic til you vomit hub based quest style content for dummies. WoW combat utterly destroys the lifeless/generic crap in ESO. WoW has the best UI customization (via mods) and modding in general of any MMORPG by a billion miles. If you're into the cheeseball minigames and sideshows that litter the modern day cesspools called MMORPGs (battlegrounds, holiday events, collections, mounts, achievements, etc) then nobody does it better. Every class in WoW is interesting and worth trying out and fun to play. WoW has that fun factor you get from any Blizzard game (and it seems like so much of the time game designers, especially with MMORPGs, forget that games should be fun).
Another factor is, what are you really seeking here? It's not exactly easy to hop into an MMORPG that's been around for years, even for MMORPG vets. There's tons of content, tons of lore, tons of history for the game over time, jacked up level curves, highly established servers, high established server economies, long standing guilds that won't want anything to do with noobs, and so on. If you just plan to solo (then why ever play an MMORPG) it probably won't matter as much, but if you're at all interested in grouping, social, and trying to find the MMO in MMORPG, then ESO might be a bit easier to digest.
If you're not experienced with either and want to play a really good single player game passing for an MMORPG I'd recommend The Secret World instead, since it has exceptional content for single player, nearly on par with single player games themselves (which generally blow away MMORPGs for content since MMORPG content has to be dumbed down beyond belief). I also think TSW does (did? not sure what changed when it moved to FTP sludge recently) instances better than anybody with little to no trash and focus on fun boss fights - far less time wasted and maximum fun.
Personally I think the quests are a LOT more interesting in ESO. Going from quest to quest is a real slog in WoW, they all started blending into each other after a while. (granted I haven't done as many quests in ESO yet but they do seem like they command your attention a lot more)
Can't really say anything about later game stuff. (and I'm not much for PvP so I can't say anything about that)
