yes, you must use code that comes with physical copy on your account.

The question is asking if it will work, If you buy the base game on disc it's only for the standalone version of the game, so it's highly possible it's only for the standalone version.
As for the original question, I have sent in a support ticket asking them if it works with Steam and I will update you if they repond! :markarth:

I asked this very question to ESO support about 2 days ago, they put me through about 14 different staff on their support team who none of seem to know the awnser themselfs, they said they are getting my question put through to the much higher ups team and i am still waiting on a response, like Corislor said, i will let you know when i know.

you can login with steam account to the eso account website https://account.elderscrollsonline.com and simply add it by useing redeem code.
system wise upgrade version needed anyway.... if you allready own working eso account.
since there is standalone upgrade version and steam shop upgrade version
main diffreence steam one adds the code automatical, where as Zenimax you must add the upgrade key yourself!
full verison is only for to make a new account!
basic info: http://www.elderscrollsonline.com/en-gb/news/post/2017/02/02/a-closer-look-at-the-morrowind-announcement-trailer
preorder info here :
http://www.elderscrollsonline.com/en-gb/preorder
existings game users must either use morrowind upgrade version or morrowind collectors upgrade version!
doesnt matter if you buy it from zenimax or steam
important is that it is an upgrade version!
steam version here:
http://store.steampowered.com/app/582880/

any none upgrade version will only let you make a new account! and is more expensive for same reason! since it contains both One Tamirel and Morrowind!

steam users must first buy One Tamriel gold and then buy the upgrade
if you not allready own One Tamriel in steam!
http://store.steampowered.com/app/526150/

use this site to compare costs:
http://www.elderscrollsonline.com/en-gb/preorder
standard morrowind upgrade versions is round 35% cheaper compared to standrad version since they only contain eso:Morrrowind!
digitial collectors version uprgead is round 8% cheaper compared to digital collectors version since it only contains eso morrowind+ digital collectors content!

if you want to have the physicla stuff the Collectors edition that box can only make a new account!

so if you want the new content for a cheap price without the collector gimmicks and allrerayd own the game.
then you can cheaply get the morrowind standrad upgrade

I don't know what your on about CDM, it actually states on ESO's website that you can use the key from the physical collectors edition to upgrade an Existing ESO account, they have a whole section on it, it doesn't however state if the same can be done for owners of the steam version of ESO which is what i am waiting on their support team to get back to me about.

Good News everyone !, i finaly got word back from the ESO support team, they said yes you can use the code from the physical Collectors edition and activate on your existing Steam version of ESO, as you might of thought, you activate the code in your account options section on The Elder Scrolls Online website.

Thanks! ESO support still hasn't given me a proper answer, they assumed i wanted to know what was included in the collectors edition despite me not asking that at all...

So, realted question. If I purchase a Morrowind Upgrade key from a third party key retailer and logon to ESO account with steam credentials, will I be able to register the key using the redeem code function? I own the TESO:TU Steam Edition. Thanks in advance.

Honestly i'm not sure, but everything in theory should be the same, the key would work like any other key you have to activate, or atleast thats how keys through Humble Bundle and Bundle Stars work anyway, your best off asking ESO's support team.
