Worth it to pick up random swords/armor?

I have a habit of picking up swords and armour I see lying aroung on racks and crates. I don't think I have ever found an item stronger than what I have, but I'm still hopeful. Is it ever worth it? Will I ever find an upgrade or am I wasting my time by doing that?

its worth for deconstruction, you will get materials and crafting experience from it

but as you doing quest and mob, you will get weapons/armor loot anyway, and sometimes in higher quality than equipment that you get from looting weapons/armor on ground/racks

Don't forget research.
If you're going to craft, you need to start doing this early so you can get your hands on the best craftable sets that need a certain number of traits researched for gear piece.

I'm really just playing this for the lore and exploration, I don't plan on getting into the crafting aspects too much

Use it either to lvl your crafting skills,replace your current gear or just deconstruct and sell the items either to vendors,players or guild stores.
