I've tried just about everything I know and still can't even open the simple chests. HELP!!!

Interact with the chest, and watch for the locks, right before they start to shake, release the button so you're not pushing the lock down anymore, that's all.

Fast legerdemain: Find heards of animals, kill them, stock up stacks of stolen guts. I'm talking like, 7 stacks of 200 or more. Will take couple hours depending on area farmed.
Daily, sell to fence, and launder what you can. You will see legerdemain jump upwards.
Then you can upgrade the passive skills so that you can just break most chests when pick locking.

Rank IV locksmith: Improves your chances of forcing locks by 70%.

The default chance of forcing a lock depends on its difficulty (Trivial: 100%, Simple: 15%, Intermediate: 10%, Advanced: 5%, Master: 0%) so just add on 70% chance to that. Can get almost anything.

i have nothing in ledgerman pointed and i open even master chests. You only have to pay attention when the lockpick starts shaking while pressing a pin, and release it then.
