The Elder Scrolls Online

Support for this game is preposterous, error 210.
I did all the things the support site said to do, I forwarded ports even. The game worked for 37 hours and suddenly the launcher is stuck on error 210. Ofcourse there is no way to contact support directly, when I try to login to the support page It won't let me click the button to log in.

I have spent hours upon hours trying to fix this, trying to get support.

I buy a game I expect some ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ support.

I exhausted all resources and support for error 210 and nothing works I even re installed the game.

I need someone to help me, this is preposterous. I would get a refund if i didn't have 37 hours.

Every single thing, to no avail.

Next step is apparently:

Please try deleting the programdata folder in the ESO installation folder and let us know if it helps. Here are the steps to do that:

1. Navigate to the patch installation folder (by Default located at C:\Program Files (x86)ZenimaxOnline\Launcher).
2. Locate and delete the ProgramData folder.
3. Restart the Launcher.
4. The Launcher should now display "Creating Download." This is normal as the launcher begins the regeneration process. It can take anywhere between 21-30% before the launcher switches to "Downloading Game Files."
5. Try to run the client.

Next attempt:

If that isn't working, you can try reinstalling the launcher to resolve the issue.

To do this, head to the installation folder for ESO. By default, this is C:\Program Files (x86)\Zenimax Online. If it is not in the default location, make a note of where the installation folder is. This will be important later!

In the Zenimax Online folder, there will be a folder called Launcher. Right click on this folder, select Rename, and name the folder Launcher.old. This will ensure that the files are still there, but will allow a reinstall to work correctly.

Once the folder is renamed, head to https://account.elderscrollsonline.com/ and log in with your game credentials. Select Download Game on the right to download the Install_ESO.exe file. When the file finishes downloading, launch it.

This is where the installation location becomes important. The installer will ask for an installation location. You'll want to use the Zenimax Online folder that already exists. If it's in the default location, you won't need to change anything. If you chose a custom location, you'll want to make sure that you change it in the installer.

This will only install the game's launcher. When the installation completes, a new Launcher folder should populate. Try running the Bethesda.net launcher from this location and let us know if it helps.

If so, you may delete the Launcher.old folder and you can continue to access the game from the new launcher. If it doesn't work, keep the files and let us know what happens when you open the new launcher.

Thanks for your patience!

I don't have a Zenimax folder in program files, it's inside the steam folder. Also when I try to delete the programdata folder i have no permissions even though I'm admin.

This is a fix that has worked for me. This may not work for everyone. Log into an Admin Account if you dont have one. This is not to be confused with log into the game as an admin. Go to your OS (C:) Drive or where ever you have steam downloaded. If you're a Windows 8.1 or 10 user it should be located in "Program Files (x86), Locate the "Steam" Folder, Open it. Locate "SteamApps" Folder, Open it. Locate "Zenimax Online" Folder, Delete it.

After all said and done, log out of the Admin Account and back into your user account.

-Now Open Steam like usual, and on the left hand side in your games "Library", "Right Click" The Elders Scroll online, scroll your mouse down until you see uninstall, "Uninstall" the game.

-Now Reinstall the game, This method will do a complete fresh install of ESO.

This method has worked for me countless times and I "ALWAYS" have issues launching the game right after Zenimax has done some sort of patch or the game crashes server side, which usually results in corrupted game data.

Also adding that I have done this method countless times and has worked everytime, but like I said, this will not work for everyone, and for those who have a Data Cap on their internet service per month, sorry, but this may be the only method that will work for you.

I'm booting into linux and going to force delete the folder since windows won't let me delete it. Last ditch effort.

So I deleted the programdata folder, the launcher ran, then it patched then it went back to error 210. This is ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ ridiculous. I'm done.. I spent too many hours of my short existance ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ with this game.

So sorry Zach, wish I new how to help you. I can post you letter in the PC technical support section and see what they say?

Sorry you are having problems. This thread suggest it may be an ISP issue. Also suggest trying power recycling your modem and flushing DNS.

*Edit*Also this:
Hello all!

Thank you again for the great information, this is helping our research while finding a solution. Some players are reporting that manually editing the hosts file is allowing them to connect to the launcher and patch servers as it forces your connection to find a new path.

Our support team is working hard to get in touch with everyone to gather the necessary information, but in the mean time if you would like to give it a try, it's worth a shot!

To do so, please try the following:

1. Open the Run menu by pressing the Windows key and R
2. Type in the following command to the runbox: notepad c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts
3. Once Notepad has opened the file, search for the line that contains the following information:
##.##.##.## launcher.bethesda.net
Please note that the # represents the numbers of the direct IP Address
4. Delete that entire line from the Hosts file
5. Save the changes but do NOT use "Save As" because this will change the Hosts file's extension

Thank you again, and please let us know if it helps resolve your issue!

I realize you may have already tried all of this but it may help someone else with this error.
