Turn on PC, link up Q3, open Steam VR, press on ACE, press play. I need to open Steam VR first and select ACE from the Steam page. Otherwise it's just 2d as you said.
I really hope they add Oculus Rift render mode like we have in AC. That way we won't need SteamVR at all, just connect headset to PC and start AC, simple

I use a Quest 3 without Steam VR! I start my Quest 3 headset, which I have connected to the PC via a USB-C cable, then activate the link to the PC in the headset and start AC EVO in Open XR mode. It works perfectly and I can also assign a button to reset the VR view.

You dont need Steam VR ..... (maybe if your a HTC headset)

Open meta quest link Software > General Tab > "Set Meta Quest Link as Active Open XR Runtime"

You just connect Q3 via USB Cable to PC via Oculus link first,
Once connected launch AC EVO from steam and select if you want to launch in pancake mode or Open XR mode

Simple.

Sounds like 2 people have Steam VR set as Active Open XR

PS. you may have tweak with Q3 Resolution and hz in meta quest app
to accomodate your gpu performance

OpenXR accomplishes the same thing, just make sure you have Meta/Oculus set as your default OpenXR handler. If you launch with OpenXR and SteamVR opens, it's not set correctly.

this. you can even use Air Link and it should run just fine (depending on your hardware). when clicking Start in Steam you can choose "Oculus VR Mode". also check that in Oculus App you set up OpenXR as default.

I recommend skipping the cable and using the Steam Link app on q3, this is preinstalled on pc with steamvr and is much less hassle than the alternatives. Also the quality surpasses cabled (or Meta Quest Link) with a large margin.

Perhaps go to your Documents folder/ACE/
Delete everything in there thats not in a folder.

Ensure Open meta quest link Software > General Tab > "Set Meta Quest Link as Active
Open XR Runtime"
Then jump in quest 3 jump into quest link to connect to PC .... once connected.

Launch AC EVO as open XR mode

or go the other route
Load the game in pancake mode
Set all graphics to low and restart in VR

Got it to run in VDXR, not worth it on my 4070 Ti // 5800X3D. On very low it runs at 72 FPS, but looks like dog water.

Turning it up to medium and it looks better, stuck at about 65 FPS, but locks up in VR about 30 seconds into a race (it's still running on desktop in the background).

At High settings it locks up as soon as you get onto the track.

Turning on the only available Upscaler for VR - FSR, it's unplayable, warping and looking like jello with head still. Also you are floating about 10 meters above the car. Additionally the menus are really low down, like 2-3 meters bellow floor level.

Finally any AA has the same effect as FSR in that you spawn about 10 meters above the car, but like medium settings it locked up after a few seconds. I think the biggest issue is that it runs out of VRam, I don't have these issues in AMS2 or LMU though.

Shelving it for now. I have played the game for over 2 hours, but I have yet to get beyond the 2nd corner of a track. It needed more time in the oven before EA.

Absolutely fantastic on 4090 and should be even better on 5090. The immersion with a stable platform (I have a cheap playseat trophy) is bar none. Highly recommended and hopefully performance will later allow lesser hardware.
