The free roam part is not racing. It's free roam. On public roads. LIDAR scanned roads actually, so real places. And those places have speed limits in real life. Would be VERY unrealistic to have public roads where you can go 400 km/h and nobody cares

If EVO tries to simulate street driving, it should simulate police to some degree.

If you drive 400 km/h and nobody sees you do it, nothing happens. If you pass a cop car and adhere to traffic laws, nothing happens. It would be very immersive

No it shouldn't be like Need For Speed where police cars don't care about public safety, and try to ram you death basically. And damage to cars doesn't slow them

It should be more like Test Drive Unlimited, where if you stay too close to patrol car for too long, you get a ticket and pay with in-game money.. And some roads are blocked sometimes. No ramming, just simple AI that tries to catch you, and if you can't make distance between you and them inside X seconds, an arrest cutscene plays (like TDU)

Ramming is not advised, because it will damage your car which A) you have to pay for in the repair shop after the pursuit is over B) it makes your chances of evading smaller, since you may damage the steering or puncture your tyres

Kunos said as this is a game of the future they will be using future tech like drones and speed cameras so when you commit an offense/violation your steam account will get billed....

Dangerous speeding = police goes after you. It doesn't get more realistic than that. War game equivalent would be: Get in the way of bullets = you die.

And people will do this anyway in multiplayer, if open world mods are possible. It's already in AC1 modding. And also BeamNG.

Btw, having police as AI is not the same as having police cars or other things (like trucks, vans or ambulances) for players to use.

I think Marco was referring more to something like this because he already said that they don't want to put a speed limit or anything that could frustrate the players experience.

Assetto Corsa was always great in that you could chose from a huge selection of cars, and then do whatever you want with them. In a super high quality accurate simulation.

So I wouldnt mind silly modes^^
